Yes he did.
Right, so a if he's done some damage to his knee you think this should stand as a W for Vitali? Care to explain why?
He hurt his leg, how is that Vitali's problem?

Do fights normally get ruled as no contests in these sorts of situations?

to be honest , while i agree with you that there should be a rematch i do feel Vitali is entitle to the W, solis went down from a punch to the temple , i believe if it wasnt for the injured knee he would have got back up but it cannot be proven , so officially it was a ko as he failed to beat the count
I get that he was counted out fair and square, but that punch did not put him down.
I assure you it did , he was going down regardless of the knee , the knee was what stopped him getting up , ive seen people ko'd by similar punches many times before , didnt look much i know , but it as obvious to me having watched fights for years and boxed myself .

Only way something like that would be a no contest would be if some kind of outside interference effected the result , such as someone throwing in a bottle and solis tripping on it causing the injury , but that didnt happen so it doesnt matter

If you've lost a fight via first round KO, regardless of the circumstances in which it happened, you've forfeited all reasons for a rematch. I'm sorry, it's just the way it goes. Had this happened at the end of round 10 after a near-even contest, then maybe it could've happened. World class fighters are so inactive these days that they shouldn't be wasting time with rematches due to freak accidents.

I don't care if you've had 1000 fights, that punch did not knock him down. Watch it again, he just falls away like his leg gave in. That shot barely landed.
Im sure we will hear from Solis over the next few days , until then my own knowledge is enough for me .

I am not interested in a rematch. I want to see other fighters get a chance to fight for the title.

If Vitali wants to fight Solis again then fine, but I don't think he should be forced by the WBC to rematch him.

I don't think his knees were designed to take that kind of weight!

I wasn't surprised that the Sky team really built up his chance of winning, lauded his fantastic shape and even claimed he might have won on another night!

I think if there was a rematch a clause should be written into the fat blokes contract that he has to train, even if it is just a little bit

He will get paid for tonight's fight.

He doesn't deserve another payday based on that performance.

McGuigan and Nelson told us this man was in fantastic shape and trained really hard!

Knowledge of what? It didn't happen to you, we're both just guessing. He clearly wasn't hurt from the punch though.

Like i said , ask someone thats actually been in the ring , he was caught on the head and it dazed him , waste of time arguing about it , you obviously know more about how a punch effects the brain than us who make their living in boxing , ill be sure not to disagree with you again , oh wait a minutte , you admit you was guessing ,guess based on what , as im actually using what ive seen many times before , and even been knocked down myself in a similar way in sparring , although a very long time ago

He doesn't deserve to get paid to fight Vitali for the WBC title twice because he hurt his leg.

If he is willing to fight Vitali for nothing then I might change my mind about him deserving another shot at the title.

I'll tell you what, lets wait and see what's said and we'll see who was right. Vitali's response to him being counted should tell you all you need to know.
didnt i already say that ?

Are you trying to argue for arguments sake now? All you said was 'I'm sure we'll here from Solis over the next few days'.
 no pal not trying to argue but if you look a few posts up i did say lets wait to hear what solis says before you kept going on , so i could actually say your the one wanting to argue .

So lets see what gets said and the discuss from there .

Fair enough. Just want to say, all I said after you said that was we're both only basing our opinions on what we both saw happen, you have no more knowledge of the injury than me.

Ok , we will see , but for the record then my view is that he was staggered from a punch on the top of the head , and fell awkwardley resulting in strained lateral knee ligaments , if that matches exactly to what he says then i would hope to receive a  in acknowledgement :TU:

Did anyone notice Vitali storm over shouting abuse at Solis after the ref counted him out? Classy.
Solis was the mandatory challenger and Vitali had no choice to fight him, unless he wanted to be stripped. I for one thought Solis was put on rubber legs by the temple shot. If he injured his leg than tough. Vitali has lost bouts due to injury, so maybe he will have some empathy and give Solis another shot. I doubt it though.

What would be so strange about fighting Solis? There aren't a lot of great options out there, so an unbeaten gold medalist ain't too bad.

Yep, he beat Ray Austin to become the mandatory. I would be surprised if a rematch is ordered. There was no foul play of any sort and it's not like it could be ordered on the grounds that it was a super close fight. It will be very hard to prove the punch didn't lead to the injury.

Well this thread shows people will say the punch was negligible (sp.) , i have stated that i think the punch would have still knocked him down without the legs buckling due to seeing these little temple type shots knocking people down so often and in the past have been knocked down by one myself  , but some people barely believe it had any effect

Ya, it seems like there is a split on the issue, but for the WBC to actually order a rematch I think opinion would have to be overwhelmingly one way.

Can you explain why Vatali has a L against his name after dominating both Lennox and Chris Byrd but the fight was stopped because of injury?

It happens, it's the sport and a punch was at least landed that caused the injury.

cant comment on the byrd fight as i either cant rememeber it or didnt see it , but as for lennox lewis , Vitali didnt dominate him at all , Lewis was only slightly ahead but ahead none the less , and even still its not really the same situation as tonight was

I felt quite defensive reading this thread, I was convinced there was no temple shot landed and that Solis should be getting a rematch. The feed was in spanish though so maybe they made mention of it on the Sky broadcast. Good old youtube, definitely a temple shot that got the ball rolling.

Very depressing overall. It reminded me a little of Michael Grant's comeback fight with McCline.

There should be a rematch imo, not holding out much hope though.
He doesn't deserve a rematch.
Never said he did, but he should get one. It might not sell, but it's warranted.

When he beat Haye as an amateur he showed ridiculous recuperative abilities after getting dinged with that uppercut. I'm not saying he could've gone on to beat VK had he not gotten injured, but I'm close to certain he'd have made it out of the round, buying him time to somewhat recover from the temple shot.

In all honesty it's hard to say what might've happened, Solis has a very good chin, he might well have been able to weather some flush bombs from VK but temple shots are a different animal. The only real way to determine whether Solis could've made a fight out of it would be a rematch.

I understand it's not exactly financially viable after tonight, but it's warranted because there was no winner. I don't care if it's 'official', that 'W' comes with a massive asterisk next to it that essentially makes it void.

Haye excluded, I'd much rather see Solis get another crack before Povetkin and Adamek are served up.

Guaranteed, Adamek's getting mullered by whichever brother they throw him in with and given Povetkin's recent troubles, I don't think he'd mind someone like Solis holding him up in the queue. Who else is there? Chagaev? Baby bro's already got that scalp which kind of devalues a fight with older bro. There's some useful prospects out there. Pulev might be able to do something, but it's likely too soon for him. Boytsov's the only other that springs to mind and he'll never be ready for a Klitschko.
