Can you explain why Vatali has a L against his name after dominating both Lennox and Chris Byrd but the fight was stopped because of injury?

It happens, it's the sport and a punch was at least landed that caused the injury.
cant comment on the byrd fight as i either cant rememeber it or didnt see it , but as for lennox lewis , Vitali didnt dominate him at all , Lewis was only slightly ahead but ahead none the less , and even still its not really the same situation as tonight was

Vitali didn't really land heavily, but he clearly landed right on the sweet spot. I thought the punch froze Solis for a moment, as he doesn't start moving backwards for a few seconds, and he wobbled even while he was stationary. Vitali may have been upset that Solis was blaming the loss on his leg and that he would not get full credit for the win; he may just feel antipathy towards Solis in general for all the trash talking he and Oner have done over the past year; or he may have genuinely thought in the moment that it wasn't a great shot, without realizing it landed in the perfect area. Vitali later said he landed a good shot, but even if he truly believes otherwise, it doesn't mean the punch didn't have an affect on Solis. Vitali's opinion isn't the be all end all.

I have watched the replay several times and as soon as the punch lands (not a few moments after) Solis loses his legs. He had no absolutely no problems before that. It may have just been a temporary buzz, but that is long enough for an injury to occur.

Drinking and onlineness: bad idea as I;ve learnt in the past.. Good thing I only had half a bottle of whiskey tonight.
I blame Solis for everything. Fat bastard reminds of Sinan Samil Sam who had knee problems - well of course you're legs are gonna have problems supporting you when your top half has 2 stone excess!

yer, to me johny nelson was right, he dident look hungry, and to come in in that shape just isnt good enough, imo his weight played a part in the twisting of his knee, considering what a great amateur he was, he should be fighting at around 16st with a simular physic to haye.

He may have gone out with a leg injury in the end but the shot completely scrambled him and it was a typical Klitschko shot, if his leg had stood up and not got injured
I cannot see how Klitschko does not land a similar shot in the next couple of rounds and have enough time left to finish it if Solis got to his feet.

The kind of shots Klitschko throws will often land to the temple and as we all know if you have a problem there they can send you down almost everytime
a good one lands. The leg will be the official reason but this was only going one way and a lot earlier than most of us thought.

The fact that Solis actually landed a couple may give others some much needed courage when they get in the ring with Vitali but his chin is so good I don't think
there is a heavy out there who will beat him. Haye would clearly have the speed to land and the power to give himself a chance but I think we may see a similar
shot taking David out of the equation to be honest.

I thought Solis was boxing well but the shot caught him high and his legs went as did his knee! Good win for Vitali though

What a disappointment. Solis seemed to be boxing a very intelligent, relaxed fight and had caught Vitali flush several times.

Youre dreaming.

Solis is just a fat waster. The shot done him. We didnt have all this talk when John Mugabi won the 154 title in similar fashion 22 years ago, and we shouldnt have it here.

Haye will get Ko'd by either Klitschcko.

I can't help but think WTF when watching that back. Solis either took easy money, or he's as chinny as owt, as that punch to the temple was no more than a glance, IMO. I think Solis should be ashamed, but I guess I'll wait and see if it's a serious injury first.

He (Solis) looked nippy but must have moved a mile in (nearly) 3 minutes. He was never going to win a bout against Vitali with a counter shot every half minute. The punch didn't land flush but I can remember Barry McGuigan catching someone with a glancing blow and the punch finished the fight. In the interview afterwards Barry said that the glancing shots are very effective and it was hard to come back from. I'm sure Solis is a tough man and he wouldn't have got out at the earliest chance but I have seen boxers really want to carry on after a good hiding. Solis didn't give me that impression.

I think Solis did train hard for this fight, but his conditioning is a reflection of his career. He is a stone lighter than he was for his eliminator with Austin 3 months ago - so to drop a stone in 3 months must have meant a fair amount of training was done. Problem was, he started his camp at way to high a weight in the first place.

No doubt he injured his knee, severity of the injury I am convinced about to be honest. Walked out of the ring unaided and with a slight limp, with adrenalin pumping in the heat of the action I aint convinced he couldn't hold his weight when he got up. Be interesting to know what happens since, I do hope if it is a serious injury then he maintains a decent ranking with the WBC - he aint going to get a shot as a voluntary any time soon after "stinking the place out" like this. Remember Jameel McCline vs Valuev.

Injury kind of reminded me of Tyson's vs Williams.

As for Klitchsko's speech calling Wladimir the weaker champion, well I think its a dig at Haye. The brothers have maintained and maintened (even before Haye was champ) that they want one brother to hold two of the big four, and the other to hold the remaining two. So I think in the negotiations Haye must have called for Wladimir more so than Vitali - so probably their reasoning as to why Haye is doing this.

I agree with both. A lot of fighters don't ever get a world title shot and Solis has been given his. His performance was a shambles and I hope there's no rematch.

Why wait until you've landed a few blows, got yourself into the fight and are at the end of the round before deciding enough is enough? His legs looked frigged. If it does come out that it was a con job then he should be signed up as Daniel Day Lewis's acting coach.

I've read an interview (probably Boxing Monthly) where Wladimir states that his brother is top dog; a natural fighter whereas Wlad says he learnt to be a fighter.

Yeah i heard Wlad say that before . on ringside i think .

Just makes me wonder along with last nights comments how much they feel vitali is top dog or is it some sort of psycological game with david haye .

Did my ligaments a few years ago, and a few years before that i broke my kneecap.

the pain from the ligaments was nearly as bad as the break, but it subsided quite a bit after the initial moments, when i broke my kneecap the pain stayed there for ages :D

I could hobble into A+E with the ligament damage, so it wouldn't surprise me if Solis walked out of the ring. It could be ruptured.

My knee is now crap, this is mainly due to the ligament damage.

depends on the extent of the damage in my opinion , having studied physiotherpy im going on what i learned rather than actual experience as ive never damaged my ligaments , but its my view that if its strained Medial collateral Ligaments or whaat i thinks more likely , lateral collateral ligaments then he would be capable of walking out of the ring himself but it would be fairly painful , now if he had torn those same ligaments or if he had done his cruciate ligaments ( which is unlikely imo) then i dont think he would A ) have been capable of walking out unaided , but if in the rare instance he was able to , i dont think his team would have allowed him to due to the risk of further damage , if hes strained the Medial or Lateral collateral Ligaments he will be capable (including training time ) of being back in the ring by late summer , if hes torn them he will be capable of fighting at the end of the year dependent on severity , it could drag out a bit , if hes done the cruciate then he will definately not fight again this year , and could actually end up being retired by it .

Damian, just a question - wouldn't it be very difficult to get out of the ring with ligament damage. As part of my studies I've looked at people undergoing rehab and know people can walk with certain ligament damage - but surely actually getting out of the ring would prove tricky.

What striked me as a tad odd, was during the count he couldn't walk unaided - he couldn't put any weight on the right leg and using the ropes to keep balance..... when it came to time to leave the ring, he did it unaided with just a slight limp and was going at a fair pace. I'm sure had he done that when the ref was counting, the fight would have continued - probably would have got stopped in the 2nd, but the ref would have allowed the corner time to work on it. If there was ligament tears then surely there wouldn't be improvement in a matter of minutes.

Look at the shape he is in!!

He had not trained, he had not taken this challenge seriously.

The reason fighters go into looking so apprehensive and focused is because they are mentally prepared to put themselves through 12 rounds of hell.

Fat boy was so relaxed because he knew he was having an early night.

When he went down he held and pointed to his knee, didn't even grimace in pain, and we are supposed to believe he has ruptured ligaments!!

I am more likely to believe McGuigan that Fat Boy was in fantastic shape!!

Come back Audley, all is forgiven!
