What striked me as a tad odd, was during the count he couldn't walk unaided - he couldn't put any weight on the right leg and using the ropes to keep balance..... when it came to time to leave the ring, he did it unaided with just a slight limp and was going at a fair pace. I'm sure had he done that when the ref was counting, the fight would have continued - probably would have got stopped in the 2nd, but the ref would have allowed the corner time to work on it. If there was ligament tears then surely there wouldn't be improvement in a matter of minutes.
I snapped my cruciate ligament some years ago. It hurt lots at first .. too painful to stand back up for a good 5mins. I was able to walk shortly after though .. not able to straighten knee for sure .. but walking was uncomfortable rather than excruciating as would be expected.
Maybe its not even a torn ligament.
Either way the punch got his legs going all jelly-like .. Vitali would have got to him very soon had he continued.
did his cruciate ligament and cartilage tests at Cologne hospital showed - was so obvious from Vitali's reaction that even he knew it couldn't have been the punch. Echoes of that Danny Green fight in Oz recently when Paul Briggs did get scrambled by a shot to the top of the head but this didn't look like that at all - his knee just went from under him

The fact that he hurt his legs doesn't mean the punch did no damage, although it wasn't what prevented him from continuing. All the damage was done to his right knee and in a press releaase Solis said the injuries where suffered while he was falling. If that is the case it seems to me like the punch was what caused him to fall, as you don't just start staggering backwards with a clear head and two good legs.

cant comment on the byrd fight as i either cant rememeber it or didnt see it , but as for lennox lewis , Vitali didnt dominate him at all , Lewis was only slightly ahead but ahead none the less , and even still its not really the same situation as tonight was
On your cards Lefty? but on the judges score cards he was behind, check it out Lefty, I'm rather enjoying correcting you!
Your not a judge or are you? one minute I'm talking to you your a physiotherapist and then when it suits you a Promoter, not bad for a guy who doesn't know his left from his right
see you cant even remember who your talking to , it wasnt lefty who was a physio or a promotor , it was me , you prize idiot .
No, your new name is Lefty, because you don't know your left from your right Twit, in fact, sarcasm doesn't really register with you either.
Mate you should check the scorecards of Vatali vs Lennox before making comment again, because the last time i checked no organisation considers you a judge, especially the majors.
Are you having fun yet, or do we need to keep going, as i said mate Darts could use a few more spectators, because boxing and left and right seems to confuse you..
My opinion is VK shouted at solis when he went over cos he knew he never connected with him and thought that solis was ducking out the fight. Then post fight he changed and said he caught him with a good shot when he realised that solis wasn't play acting.

Yep that was my view of it - obviously that was why Vitali was going ape after it was stopped: he thought Solis had dived.
He caught him, but it looked a nothing shot, and that's certainly what Vitali thought at the time.
You could argue for the rematch, but the fact Solis turned up looking like he'd trained on doughnuts sort of rules it out.
What gets me is that after "the best pro training camp he's had" the boy is nearly eighteen stone, right? So, WTF does he walk around at???
That, I believe, is the reason his knee went "pop", years of strain hauling vast amounts of bulk around.
As for demonstrating the fearsome punching power of Big Klit, I can only answer that with two words: "Shannon Briggs" (cue more wonderful theories about how steroids improved Shannon's chin, just like all those other guys down the years whose chins were improved in the same fashion).
Respect to Vitali for being pissed off that the fight had ended in an unsatisfactory manner. That's a warrior. A lot of fighters would've been just glad to have got the W.

Well, it affects him because people will remember it as a Vitali fight they went to see and were disappointed, regardless of whether it was his fault.

He was over 10lbs lighter than his pro debut, and significantly lighter than he's been in three years.
Some people are genetically predisposed to weaknesses in certain areas i.e. knees. Granted carrying round 250lbs plus and doing whatever he does in training is not going to help but having a pre-fight injury to his knee would bear out that perhaps he's had previous problems and it's slightly disingenuous to say that his knee popped because he's fat.
As for Vitali's power, I don't really think that's in question?

More than likely it'll be the huge change in lifestyle since defecting from Cuba and living in Miami where he's got everything on tap 24/7 and no longer living on $30 a week and living in some shithole flat somewhere in the arse end of Cuba (albeit "free").
Solis was an outstanding amateur who ruled the world at 14'4, obv clearly beating David Haye to boot.
Since then the Cuban defected, partied like mad in Miami and got fat. Talent wise he was far too good for the usual suspects put in front of him, but did he really think he could move into world class without training???
In the meantime Haye has trained hard, improved a lot and stayed in fantastic shape
Solis was 17 stone 9. That is not nearly as fat as some people are making out. He was not sculpted and is unlilkely to ever be, but that doesn't mean he can't fight well at a good pace.
I take back any accusation that he might not have been seriously injured, he is and I have some doubts as to whether he will ever fight again.
I agree NN - sure he wasn't in good shape, but was in career best shape. Did pretty well to get rid of a stone in 3 months - must have trained hard to do that... and thats from a previous "fight" shape..... there are rumours that his weight balloons up in between camps, so it might have been up to around 2 stone when the fight was signed- so I think he is getting a bit of a hard time for this particular fight. By all means slag off his pro career before that. It would have been nice to have seen in him 250 lbs for his eliminator and then seen his weight now.
What he needed to do was to try and sit on his ranking for a bit and maybe fought Klitchsko in the summer, might have knocked another 10/20 lbs of his weight - but people seem to be thinking he made no effort for this fight, when really its because of the lack of effort in other fights (he was still talented enought to EARN a mandatory shot, even at pushing 20 stone) that meant he was 240 lbs come fight time. Fighters who ballooned up like Ingle and Bowe typically wanted a 6 month training camp, first part weight loss - second part tighting up. Thats what Solis needed, but didn't get. So I think he lost as much weight as he could have in the time he had.... although I repeat it is his fault for being in such shit shape for the Austin fight.
At least it wasn't like Danny Williams who was some 30 lbs higher than his ideal fighting weight when he fought Klitchsko, and 5 lbs heavier than for Tyson, despite saying the weight for Tyson was a strategy and a one off - needed to be quicker for Klitchsko. Yep you did Danny.
That's all very well and good Stu but this is a professional athlete fighting for the heavyweight championship of the world. Sure he was in better shape than before but all that says is this man has not been serious about his heavyweight career from the start. For somebody with that much talent, that put up more of a fight in those first 3 minutes than the likes of Briggs, Johnson and Peter combined have managed in 20 odd, it's all just depressing.
Also, imo, the weight definitely contributed to the injury. I know somebody who shattered an ankle and was told by the doctor that if they weren't such a fat arse, then it wouldn't have happened (might not have been those exact words, I dunno, I wasn't there, but like to use them for storytelling purposes)
Also, Danny Williams, as bad shape as he got himself in, at least it was fairly evenly distributed throughout his body with his fat arse and legs. Not like Solis and his chicken legs trying to carry a hippo

The fact that Solis spends fortunes on stupid necklaces and car interiors that no one else wnats tells you all you need to know about him and where he is going.

There are two roads available when you're prsented with millions and you grew up in poverty. Save it all or blow it all.
