Re: 2011 Pan Am qualifier team
So the boxer who caused this whole box-off at the last minute that many top boxers could not afford to get to or because they are involved in the local GG tournaments did not even win. Wow! What a waste of money that USAB had to spend and now you don't neccessarily have a team that is better than what they had before the box-off was forced on USAB.

Re: 2011 Pan Am qualifier team
yeah, but USAB should have had all of these qualifications in place last year not announcing it at the last minute and think that people would be ok with it.JMac wrote:So the boxer who caused this whole box-off at the last minute that many top boxers could not afford to get to or because they are involved in the local GG tournaments did not even win. Re: 2011 Pan Am qualifier team
As a non American I find the selection method strange to say the least.Ditto the WSB finallists. However this is not the fault of the boxers who qualified who should get everyones maximum support in the qualifier as I am sure they will.
Re: 2011 Pan Am qualifier team
I thought they had announced that the winners from last years US Championships would be the ones going. As I don't have any boxers that would be involved, I haven't paid close attention.DCAmateurBoxing wrote:yeah, but USAB should have had all of these qualifications in place last year not announcing it at the last minute and think that people would be ok with it.JMac wrote:So the boxer who caused this whole box-off at the last minute that many top boxers could not afford to get to or because they are involved in the local GG tournaments did not even win. It is a very solid team and they should do well. I am expecting a bunch to get qualified.

Cuban team for qualifier

141 Rosniel Iglesias
152 Arisnoide Despaigne
165 Emilio Correa

This is probably their strongest team with perhaps only Savon being a surprise being preferred to Roberto Alfonso. They will expect to win every weight class

Re: 2011 Pan Am qualifier team
It is amazing that the #1 ranked boxer in the world, Osmai Acosta, isn't even considered the best in his own country.
Re: 2011 Pan Am qualifier team
Not sure how anyone considers Acosta the world number one,he has lost twice recently to Leinier Perot, the current World Youth and Olympic champion and they were comfortable victories.I have Perot#2 and Acosta#9 .
Re: 2011 Pan Am qualifier team
Perot is just a phenom. At the age of 16 was already #14 by the Youth World Rankings, then the next year at 17 was #3 behind WSB Kremilin Bears starter Arbi Madayev, and top american amatuer and undeafeated pro Nicholas Kisner, then followed by the next year at 18, gold medals at the Youth World Chamionships, and Youth Olympic Games, and holding wins over countrymen Savon, and Acosta. Not to many kids withing the age range between of 16 and 18 can have that kind of history. scary to think what hes gonna be when he gets his full mans strength later in his 20's. I definently see a gold medal for him here at the Pan-Am Games as well. Be interesting to see him and Hunter though. That should be the finals right there.
