Re: best sky boxing commentary team???
I like Watt and Rawling or Watt and Darke during the rounds, Bob Mee in-between the rounds analysing the fight and giving technical information. And Get Micky Vann to score it and do a Harold Lederman role just for the hell of it!
Re: best sky boxing commentary team???
i like adam smith, mcrory, ed robo, woodhall and nelson. i fuckin hate jim watt and im not into rawlinson his isnt that good
Re: best sky boxing commentary team???
In the run up to 2012 do you think there is any chance that Sky might show some Amateur Boxing? Maybe the worlds from Baku later this year?
How about little snippets of World Series of Boxing action too?

Shot by shot: Darke. Also prefer Rawling to the other options.
Colour: Woodhall (Although ideally Roy Jones or Manny Steward).
With Bob Mee or Jamie Moore between rounds if they aren't listening to the corners (Or Atlas would be great. As much as a lot of people don't like him, he can read a fight).
I think for technical analysis Sky are far behind the HBO team.

Darke and McCrory
Any other combination is pretty much inferior.
Like all the other guys though, not a big fan of Jim Watt as a commentator he says the same things in nearly every big fight and usually makes an early prediction and goes about confirming his own genius for the remainder of the bout. That said he's stood the test of time and i'd rather him then the ozzys![[icon_e_surprised.gif] :oo](./images/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif)

Yep Darke and McCrory or Watt for me. Darke's quality. Tell you who would be a good ex-fighter to use. Takaloo. When you talk to him about boxing he really does know his stuff and reads a fight very well.

Possibly could be, although I think Sky have a big enough quota.DIRT SUGAR wrote:Yep Darke and McCrory or Watt for me. Darke's quality. Tell you who would be a good ex-fighter to use. Takaloo. When you talk to him about boxing he really does know his stuff and reads a fight very well.

McCrory??? Nice guy and all but he is utterly rubbish. How can anyone think he is any good is beyond me, seriously...
He is full of cliche's and doesnt actually offer any opinion, just agrees with whoever he is with and with whatever they say. How is he any good?
Holdsworth is also very good and calls a spade, a spade. Probably the best along with Watt, imo.

Yeah I'm bemused. If I want someone to tell me who is throwing more punches he may come in handy. Any more than that I'll look elsewhere. He can't even pronounce 'hook'.bengulnaci1 wrote:McCrory??? great post......Superheavy wrote:Whoever described McCrory as the "cliche man" really...hit the nail on the head. He's one of many tv sports pundits who goes with the flow, dishing out weak analysis and endless platitudes (see, eg, practically every football pundit). Back in the studio Jonny Nelson, another man you have to respect for his achievements in the ring, is exactly the same.
People like (the much maligned - wrongly in my view) Jim Watt, McGuigan and Woodall are on a different level. They are insightful and put thought into their analysis. They actually critique the action in front of them, regardless of who it is. Sometimes this makes for awkward moments, particularly with McGuigan, who can be a bit prickly (eg I recall the time Dean Powell criticised his man's stoppage and McGuigan said "I respect Dean Powell, but he's never thrown or taken a punch in his life").
in terms of numbers i think adam smith is going the right way.....having so many people involved is the right way and it seems to be an attempt to copy the sky football pundit model which is the absolute best of any sports channel in the the uk
when u have a small 3-4 person pool of pundits in football the coverage suffers. itvs coverage of football has been dire beyond beleif for 20 years with cliche ridden paypacket men like townsend, idiots like desailly and the ubiquitous venables who has sat on a fence so long....and the bbc motd team is stale and complacent....five is little better with tosspot pat nevin and stan collymore......than u look at sky and the soccer saturday team of phil thompson, charlie nicolas, merson,le tissier and add mcinally ,francis, gullit redknapp, souness, hoddle ,wilkins and u have an exceptional pool to choose from. than look at espn stuck with ccunts like mcmenaman and robbie savage and keegan who is as useless and boring as a pundit as he was exciting as a player...........so in a nutshell the big pool is good but i do think adam smith needs to diversify it and tell his men to stop bickering, talking over each other and to be proffesional which nelson and mxguigan werent on saturday night

Re: best sky boxing commentary team???
Gary Mason was the best colour commentator Sky ever had. He spotted things all the others' would miss and had real insight. As an anchor I always liked ITV's Jim Rosenthal and never understood why he didn't get the job more often.
Re: best sky boxing commentary team???
Good shout, Rosenthal is a good old pro, and he's been involved in Boxing on and off for years, even did some commentary on Hearns-Duran and Hearns-Andries if memory serves.
Re: best sky boxing commentary team???
And DOWN!!!!!!!! (on the first KD in Duran vs Hearns) Jim would be a good person to have to cut out the pay roll. His commentary was a bit Adam Smithy at times, but perfectly acceptable.Flump wrote:Good shout, Rosenthal is a good old pro, and he's been involved in Boxing on and off for years, even did some commentary on Hearns-Duran and Hearns-Andries if memory serves.
I think when Hearns landed the best KO of all time Jim's reaction was "oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" -
He did Khan vs Kindalen III didn't he, with Ricky Hatton - not sure if he did a couple of the early ITV comeback pro shows also - before ITV signed Rawling from the BEEB. Remember when ITV did some free lance work before settling with Rawling - Holdsworth and even Jim Neilly had a go.

"look at duran saying hit me give me more like he loves being hit"......lol i see im in good company that was some memorable commentary from jim, especially his reaction at the hearns ko!........i think jim did a great job with hearns-roldan too.....
steve collins was good on "time of our lives" lets hope sky give him a chance and he develops and perhaps mcrory is dropped.......
i agree gary mason was a superbly articulate pundit and commentator
