Nelson Out!
Nelson Out!
I noticed that there's a lot of anti-Nelson opinions on the 'Growling Commentator' thread. As I said, it's embarrasing how much he licks arse when interviewing and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks it. Particularly the interview with Haye in Miami.
Who should they replace him with?
I think Richie Woodhall should do more Ringside stuff and live interviews, no showing off therefore no cringing at the tv anymore.

Re: Nelson Out!
I don't think they should replace Nelson I think he's an excellent pundiit. I'd sack Adam Smith from the presenting team instantly and I'd fcuk Jim Watt off from the commentary team, he gets 1 point in his head then repeats it and repeats it and repeats it and repeats it...............YES JIM WATT WE FCUKING KNOW, you told us 10, 15, 25, 30 and 35 seconds ago
ALL HAIL JOHNNY NELSON!!!
ALL HAIL JOHNNY NELSON!!!
Re: Nelson Out!
I'll NEVER hail Johnny Nelson!
EVER!
As for Jim Watt, there's some names that certain sports wouldn't sound the same without, even if they're crap. Just like Brian Moore in rugby and John Parrot in snooker.

and by names, i meant voices. (Woops)
Re: Nelson Out!
I like most of them if I'm honest other than their inability to call something sh1te when it's obvious it is.
Richie Woodhall is class in every respect.

I quite like Johnny, he was excellent in that Ringside with Watson, ingle, Oliver.
He sits on the fence a too much but he seems a nice genuine bloke who's enthusiastic about the sport. I may be seeing him all wrong..
I find Adam Smiths delivery very strained when he's trying to inject drama

i also think the whole production from top to bottom is excellent although that cheshire-cat grin on the anchor's face can be a bit of a wind-up at times

Re: Nelson Out!
To be fair Dan as you're from Sheffield you'd back Jarvis Cocker if he was a Sky pundit :)
I don't mind Nelson myself, can be a bit cliched but he's not the worst of the bunch.
McCrory is worse for me, he brings nothing to the table (except a fat head and NE accent)

I like Johnny, you can tell he's a proper decent fella. It just so happens that he's sh1t at reading the auto-cue and he often mixes-up and confuses his cliches... but then sportsman (past and present) often do.
All in all, Johnny is good value to Sky's coverage.

Nelson out !!
Seriously, has he ever given any great insight into any fight, at all ?
Wont happen unfortunately - it's obvious Smith likes him too much, as Johnny is obviously a nice guy - just a rubbish pundit.

Being a nice guy, loving the sport, giving to charity etc goes a long way to getting a job on the Sky commentary team!
And there is much worse than Nelson

Re: Nelson Out!
Harsh topic. Ringside in particular is developing well with Nelson involved.

I assume this is tongue in cheek? Please cite one example of Nelson providing "insight". Do you mean when he kept on insisting that Solis lost the other night because he wasn't "hungry enough"?danfoster wrote:i really like Johnny and think he's an outstanding pundit who adds real insight into the sport.
The guy has his qualities (I agree with the person who said he was very good on the Ringside show with Ingle, etc) and he certainly has the credentials, being a respected ex-pro. But he provides very little in the way of analysis or insight.

Whereas McGuigan was insisting Solis was in fantastic shape??
Re: Nelson Out!
Who gives a fornicate how it is delivered. I just wanna see the bloody boxing. Most of the team are ex boxers, who do the media stuff to survive. They did not study for this career. I like Nelsons enthusiasm. I would also like to see Buncey on Sky.

Re: Nelson Out!
Jim Watt gets a lot of stick but personally I think he's very good myself. I really enjoy listening to his viewpoints as he notices thinks from a technical standpoint. Richie Woodhall is class. He also points out technical mistakes of boxers (which I like to hear) and doesn't sit on the fence when picking a winner. I think Nelson is okay though I will admit he does tend to fence sit a bit. Forget sacking anyone!
As far as colour commentary goes Ian Darke is the best: shame he doesn't do as much boxing anymore :(

Re: Nelson Out!
They all sit on the fence the lot of them. Even Buncey, when he had his show on Setanta sat on the fence.
If you are a fan of the sport and know someone personally it must be hard not to.

No thanks to this. I love Buncey's knowledge and enthusiasm for the game but in my humble opinion he was pretty terrible last time he was a tv commentator (premier sports - Hennessy bill).
Re: Nelson Out!
yeah Darkey's my favourite, he's got a great voice for commentary. Pair him up with an ex-boxer for technical insight (not Jim Watt, not Jim Watt, not Jim Watt, not Jim W.....)black panther wrote:As far as colour commentary goes Ian Darke is the best: shame he doesn't do as much boxing anymore :(
