British Boxing Board of No Control?

Post by dondada »

http://news.boxrec.com/news/2011/furiou ... scorecards

This is what Glyn Rhodes thinks.

You know, sometimes it takes something like this to bring about change. What do you think the Board should do? Anything?

"Calm down, you'll get yourself in trouble. You know the game, you get bad decisions sometimes"

Bad decisions are expected, wrong decisions are not. There's seems to be no review system of terrible officiating, and no comeback on awful scorecards.

That's a nice turn of phrase, Scott. You ought to come and write for us 8)

And it's bad enough that 'bad decisions are expected'!

Something needs to be done with regard to incompetent officials.

Every time there's a close-ish fight on Sky you can bet your last £ that there will be some controversy going on, a split decision, a really wide scorecard (Dave Parris scoring Jamie McDonnell a five point winner over Napa being a case in point).

Additionally there's lots of premature stoppages..... the best at stopping fights for me is John Keane, the worst is probably Howard Foster, despite being a very good referee otherwise.

It must be tough for the judges in prizefighter considering there judging a 3 round fight yet expected to make sure it's not a draw(allegedly),IMO there should be tons of draws but you can see why that would be a problem,ie if they box a round 4 and that's a draw we could end up with 12 round fights.

What would be wrong with putting a draw on their record and the referee having a subjective vote on who goes through based on who he thinks has done the better work overall? Surely better than changing a scoring system of a sport to fit a competition.

To be honest, I don't think the 10 point must system works that well anyway, but then I'm not sure I'd like many judges to have more leeway than it gives.

Something has to be done it isnt fair and happens more than you think.

Boxersd trainers managers need to vote with there licences and send a complaint.

Also the paying public need to complain you make boxing happen.

Trouble is people think oh well me saying something wont make a diffrence its this idea that stops things happining if everybody vcomplained when things like this happend it could not just be swept under the carpet

(i have complained btw lol)

I've always though the no draw concept was Prizefighters Achilles heel. And it's a fornicating dumb idea. There's no reason, in the event of a draw, having a final sudden death round. Winner takes all.

It's not rocket science.

The problem (apart from IJL being useless) is this order to judges to not make a draw. The judges just need to score it straight, if they then need to find another way of making a tie-breaker then they can find it.
I have no problem with a fight being scored a draw, then (say for example) boxer A progresses on more punches landed (after all Sky do the punch stats). It would still appear as a draw on the boxers' records, but then people understand that someone has to go through.
Rhodes's "I've been robbed of 4 grand" rubbish doesn't help because I thought Reed clearly lost the first two rounds so he didn't win in my opinion.

On Betfair, at the start of round 3, Ainscough was long odds-on, showing that in a 3-round contest (that Reed started as the strong favourite) most people betting on Betfair had Ainscough two rounds up. Maybe Rhodes should have got his man to put an effort in a bit earlier.

Good article, I feel his pain.

Shambolic state of affairs, the whole Board needs a shake-up; farcical, draconian and ignorant.

That's why I said if it's scored even by all the judges the ref should have a casting vote, outside of the 10 point must system. You often have a feeling for who did the better work overall even if they didn't necessarily win most of the rounds. Wouldn't affect their records, just allow for someone to progress.

I have a good suggestion which im sure has been brought up before. Why dont we have more judges, 5, 7 or even 9 judges. Then the results would be much clearer and you'd escape a situation like this where one judge gets it completely wrong. Just a thought

Well done to Glyn for kicking up a stink. It's impossible to score the fight the way IJL and MM did and they need to be hels accountable.

The BBBC needs to do its job and findout what happened

I'd prefer a 4th round box-off

They should just silence the crowd and ask for a show of hands..... :)

It would at least be an incentive for the boxers to sell tickets...

Nine judges. Great idea. One for each side of the ring if we get rid of the broadcasters.
Why do judges all have to be sat ringside? surely they could watch on a screen in a box in the arena, score the fight that way? and 9 may be too many, but 5 or 7 would surely help?

I had it a draw as did my mate beside me and the other guy with us had it to Reed by 29-27.

It wasn't a massive robbery, I thought the Webb-Smyle decision was just as bad if not worse, what did raise the eyebrows was the scorecard of IJL.

A screen in a box in the arena? This is boxing, not Name That Tune. So what do we do? Three judges at ringside, two in the crowd (I’ll let you spot the problem with that one), two in a special box somewhere in the crowd (peep holes and bag to piss in options), one in the gallery and one in a greasy spoon down the round watching using a mobile device. I apologise for mocking the idea. It actually sounds brilliant and there wouldn’t be a problem at all.
thanks for the thoughts, glad we agree :DDD

Why don't we just vote for the winner on here then have someone ringside anounce it :)

Or let the audience decide, biggest roar wins

I'm surprised they don't score it a draw then flip a coin for who goes through, they do it with the reserves :TU:

Well, as you say, this is your opinion and it isn't one I agree with; I thought Reed won the second. Even if he lost the first two it was a draw. And if judges had to then say who they thought won the contest as a whole - a simple vote one way or t'other - I would have gone for Reed.

Out of the 3 rounds, I thought Bessey won 2, and Ferguson won the other.

Just looked and the scorecards are very weird. How would you pull out 28-27 in a 3 rounder?
