McCall - Bruno Question.
I seem to remember that McCall didn't take the post fight drugs test and was fined as a result.
I also heard from a reliable source, that he was doing coke in the dressing room before the fight.
Anyone care to shed some light on this?

I'm certain that he didn't submit a post fight sample and was fined. Please provide evidence if you know otherwise.

Like I said, I am 99% certain that McCall refused to take the post fight test. I just wondered if any one else remembered.

What evidence do you have to backup you 99% certainty? if you're that certain, surely there has to be something?keithmoonhangover wrote:Like I said, I am 99% certain that McCall refused to take the post fight test. I just wondered if any one else remembered.

So who is your reliable source? The doping was done before the fight and a dope tester remained in the dressing room. How do I know? I was there!keithmoonhangover wrote:boxingchat wrote:Absolute rubbish on both counts.

Re: McCall - Bruno Question.
"The World Council said yesterday it had suspended Oliver McCall, their former heavyweight champion, for refusing to take a drug test after his title fight with Frank Bruno on Saturday.
The WBC released a statement from its headquarters in Mexico City in which it said the American fighter had "refused to submit to obligatory anti-doping tests after his defeat last Saturday to Frank Bruno at Wembley. This is a serious lack of discipline and we are investigating the matter ... meanwhile, Oliver McCall is provisionally suspended from the WBC.""

Re: McCall - Bruno Question.
He certainly wasn't coked against Bruno, that's one of the most tepid, lethargic, listless and thoroughly disinterested performances in a world title defence I've ever seen, certainly in the UK.

To back up my OP
Good coke doesn't last very long and would make him lethargic in the ring.
Also, he tested positive for coke after the Gomez fight.
He refused to give a sample after the fight and was fined for not doing so.
If he was clean, surely he would have given a sample.
As for the "I was there" post. Were you at McCall's side every minute of the build up to the fight?

I thought Gomez tested positive, not McCall.
If McCall had tested positive then the win would of stood for Gomez, as he was the winner on points. But as Gomez tested positive then the decision was a NC.

My mistake. But the BoxRec record still shows a loss for McCall.Scottrf wrote:Yep.Old bones Ian wrote:I thought Gomez tested positive, not McCall.

Why would McCall refuse to take a test after the Bruno fight?

Not exactly, but that's what I heard. He has a long history of cocaine use and refused the drug test.Dan Dares wrote:chopping out lines with boxing gloves on was he?keithmoonhangover wrote:I also heard from a reliable source, that he was doing coke in the dressing room before the fight.

McCall virtually did nothing for 10 rounds.
He only decided to start hitting Bruno back properly in the last 2 rounds.
Had he mounted his attack earlier, I believe he would have stopped Bruno.
Very bizarre performance from McCall that night.

As I said earlier. If he was on Coke, it would NOT improve his performance. It would have worn off before the bell rang.Syntax Error wrote:Agreed.orbtastic wrote:He certainly wasn't coked against Bruno, that's one of the most tepid, lethargic, listless and thoroughly disinterested performances in a world title defence I've ever seen, certainly in the UK.

The rumour is/was he was more of a pipe man than a line man in any case.
