Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis and Bowe (Fantasy Tournament)

Post by keithmoonhangover »

All four are at there absolute peak. Winner gets one point for a win loser get no points for a decision loss. If the fighters are tied in the league table, then positions are decided by head to head results.

Tyson vs Bowe - Tyson wins by stoppage.
Holyfield vs Lewis - Lewis wins on Points

Tyson vs Lewis - Tyson wins by stoppage
Holyfield vs Bowe - Bowe wins on Points

Tyson vs Holyfield - Holyfield wins decision
Lewis vs Bowe - Lewis Wins by stoppage

1. Tyson
2. Lewis
3. Bowe
4. Holyfield

That's how I see it.

Bowe KO's Tyson
Bowe decisions Holyfield
Bowe stops Lewis- this is the one I'm the most iffy on. I always like Bowe's chances, but I don't think he did.

Holyfield stops Tyson
Holyfield decisions Lewis

Tyson stops Lewis

1. Bowe
2. Holyfield
3. Tyson
4. Lewis

Obviously a lot of these fights did happen:

Lewis beat Bowe in the amateurs. Bowe won the first round, then Lewis started consistently landing power punches to Bowe's head. Bowe has always had poor defense, but there was no way this fight would have been stopped had it been a professional contest. I think little can be drawn from this fight, except that Lewis would have a good chance of outboxing Bowe, though his chin would always be a worry.

Bowe went 2-1 against Holyfield. You can discount their last fight due to Holy's illness. Bowe was superb in their first fight, but I believe Holyfield did not perform to the best of his ability in their first fight - he was too aggressive and should have been trying to outbox Bowe (which he showed in stages he could do). Their second fight was certainly the closest - Bowe was not quite as sharp as in fight one, and Holyfield fought a smarter fight.

Holyfield went 2-0 against Tyson. You can discount the second fight, as it was close until the DQ. Holyfield was a little past his best, Tyson well past his, and Holyfield dominated their one completed fight. While I think a primes matchup would be closer, I think there's a good chance that Holyfield would always have Tyson's number.

Bowe never fought Tyson.

Lewis went 1-0-1 against Holyfield
Lewis was in his prime, but gave some very underwhelming performances, Holyfield well past his prime, pulled out one last great performance for their second fight and never performed at that level again. The first fight was a clear decision win to Lewis, only to be called a draw. The second fight was highly competitive - I call it a close win to Lewis, but some scored it for Holyfield. This indicates that a prime Holyfield would do better and probably beat Lewis. However, I think Lewis came into both fights with only a points victory in mind and would have done better had be been more aggressive.

Lewis went 1-0 against Tyson. Lewis was a little past his best, but Tyson was pretty much a shot fighter, offering resistance for the first round then taking a beating. Little can be drawn from this fight, except that Tyson would always have trouble with Lewis's size and both men had the power to hurt each other. One school of thought is that a prime Tyson's speed and power vs Lewis's chin would result in a quick KO win to Tyson. While this is certainly a possibility, I tend to think that a focused (and he certainly would be) Lewis would usually beat Tyson.

Lewis TKO7 Bowe
Bowe MD12 Holyfield
Holyfield TKO12 Tyson
Tyson KO5 Bowe
Holyfield SD12 Lewis
Lewis KO8 Tyson

1. Holyfield 2 points
2. Lewis 2 points
3. Tyson 1 point
4. Bowe 1 point

Lewis beats Bowe. Bowe had no defence, and he didn't mind taking two punches to land one of his own, a strategy he could afford with his chin and power - but I doubt it would've worked with Lewis, who had better power (and defence) than almost anyone he faced.

Holy decisions Lewis. He almost did it when worn and past prime, so prime vs prime I'd favour him.

Holy-Bowe and Holy-Tyson were already discussed, and I agree the last fights (Holy-Tyson II and Bowe-Holy III shouldn't count). Holy was better than Tyson, and Bowe (on average) better than him.

I think Tyson would finally connect against LL, and even if not he had enough stamina to collect a good early lead before getting tired, so the decision could go to him as well.

Tyson kills Bowe. Bowe lack of defence would be a disaster here, and Tyson would land whole combinations easily, I doubts it would last long.

The final conclusion is similar to jezzamundo.... although I would favour Tyson over Lewis.

I am absolutely shocked. For once we agree.

Although this tournament should have Ike Ibeabuchi in it instead of Lewis.

Ibeabuchi in it instead of Lewis

Ibeabuchi beat Tua in a close one. Lewis barely dropped a round. Ibeabuchi doesn't belong in this class mate.

I'm pretty sure he was - perhaps hoping to set you off on an Ibeabuchi rant, Irene?

Pretty much how I would have it. Bowe, was possibly the most overrated Champ, of recent years, still decent, however. Though Tyson would have obliterated him, prime for prime, each and everytime.

Only because LL stops both Bowe, and Tyson, whereas, Holy outpoints Lewis, stops Tyson yet loses to Bowe. Tysons only win comes against the easily hit Riddick, and even that is only because of the 3 Bowe is the only one Mike Tyson can intimidate.
Based on the tournament criteria, that places Holyfield 1st, Lewis 2nd, Tyson 3rd and Bowe 4th (same as mine) as head-to-head determines all ties. I personally rate Lewis as the greatest heavyweight and best fighter of these four - I think he beats all of them in rematches, but I had to count his lackluster performances against Holyfield against him.
