Aside from the first one I thought Rocky Balboa was the best.

Watched Rocky V last night - easily the worst but still a good watch!!

I'm in the minority, but I do prefer V to III and IV. III and IV were a tad no retreat no surrender - V was a decent storyline and I thought Stallone's acting in this one was underated.

5 is the worst IMO but I gotta admit the "my rings outside" bit gives me goosebumps haha

Appollo Creed has possibly the greatest ring entrance of all time for an exhibition fight in Rocky 4. Totally fantabulous!

That entrance was f'n epic by Apollo! The look on Ivan Drago's face as Apollo made his way in with James Brown was hilarious.

Even Stallone admits 5 was terrible...

This is another topic of conversation with my mates down the pub..... when I ask "why" was it so bad - they always say "well Stallone said it was" and then I ask... "and you say".... and there "umm...... cause of the last fight - completely unrealistic" - well, running up a big fornicate off mountain in the snow in 30 seconds isn't. There were also so many movies around the same time with very similar story lines.... No retreat No surrender was exactly the same. Big fornicate off Russian kills a brother - the lesser goes to Russia to bash him up. Okay, NRNS was even more corny - the Ghost of Bruce Lee trains the brother!

Stallone only started saying about how bad Rocky V was YEARS after when the press rediculed it, plus it was a good way to plug the 6th installment. Not going to see John Travolta defend Battlefield Earth in a hurry are we.

Rocky V aint perfect, major continuation errors - like the son getting about 6 years older in the space of 6 months - but much more original and more a story than the glorified soundtrack of the IV one.... What was that Robot all about.

My main boggle(good word eh?) with Rocky 5 which i admit i havent seen in ages is the fact he doesn't box(though he does fight) in it. Obviously by the end of the Drago fight he's totally punch drunk though!

Yeah, thats what my mates say. The fight seen - had he comeback and done his gonna fly now bit and beaten Morrison in the ring they say it would have been good. Personally, I think it was good way to do it.

Not for me....

Maybe it was seeing Rocky destitute and the lack of a Lang, Drago or Creed character that makes me dismiss it. It just didn't capture the imagination.

Growing up as a kid and watching these films was something else, and then Rocky 5 came along and it was bleak, dark and cynical.

I agree Rocky 4 was pure schmaltz, but it had the feelgood factor, which is what the Rocky franchise was all about. None of us look at what the critics say about these movies because people adore them no matter what, they're emotionally attached to the character. We have an unconditional love for the fella. We gave a toss about whether he won or lost.

I was glad when he returned to what was a winning formula and made Rocky Balboa, it was something of a release for him personally apparently, from the interviews I've read. He could say good bye to the character properly. We all could.

And yes I know, I know, there was cash to be made. I'm not thick, just love old Rocky.

Some of this probably sounds a little pathetic but personally I was a kid/teen when these films were released and I loved them. I can see why so many boxers were inspired by them. They will always be a fond memory of my childhood, but not Rocky 5.

I hate to be predictable and follow the crowd but I just couldn't stomach the penultimate chapter in what was a silly, romantic, carefree, soppy, at times brutal, heroic and daft - but always entertaining - series of movies.

PS Agree about the robot though Stu, why do they always throw this shit in to the mix. Like Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars. No need....

Yes, well I do like the 6th installment also. It is a good way to round off the series, although I wouldn't have minded it end on 5. I saw that as fitting also.

I think all of them had dark undertones except for the 4th one. The first one almost the boxing is a side aspect, its certainly not the main theme. The second one, the loss of money/identity and his wife falling ill - spoilt a tad by a rediculous fight ending. Rocky III was good also, more flashy but was still quite dark with the death of Mickey and Rocky struggling to accept it. Rocky IV was different in every aspect - even Gonna Fly now was not there. Rocky got over Appollo loss quickly and saw fighting as the answer - not his usual response. I wouldn't be surprised that the Dialogue for this film was possibly less than 30 minutes. I don't go "ah no its Rocky IV", I'm as big a fan as the "its no easy way out" scene as anyone - but its the one that seems so far removed from the others IMO. I've seen some deleted scenes and there was indented to be more dialogue between Appolo's death and going to Russia - I think that would have enhanced it.

The fifth one I thought got back to the roots more, got back to a storyline. Much more dialogue and a surprising twist to the storyline IMO. It would have been all too predicable had Rocky got back in the Ring. Maybe he could have just given Sage Stallone a smack for good measure.

Rocky 6 was really well done.

4 and 5 are absolute divvyness, 4 is the cold war with boxing gloves, 5 is well i don't know what 5 is.

I was skeptical about 6 due to the storyline but when I saw it I found it well acted and well made so I rank it above the other two.

I used to wack out 25 sit ups as a 10 year old to Rocky 4's training part, with my feet tucked under the setee.

Sadly can only do one now in the morning, when i sit up on my pillow to eat my cereal when morning telly is on before work.
