Brilliant insight into the world of Cuban boxing. Googled Christian Martinez this morning, he went on to win the nationals 3 years running and there is talk of him going to London 2012

I really enjoyed that documentary. Amazing to see wht these kids go through from such a young age - and the pressure they are under being told by their parents they need to make it so they can get a better house etc. On the one hand it shows you why cuba produces such amazing amateurs but on the other hand you felt sorry for the ones who weren't enjoying it and were not being allowed to see their family etc.

Was amazed to see the overweight kid (can't remember his name) fighting without a helmet at that age and taking a few decent punches - can't be good for them when their brain is still growing.

What year did it become law for kids to use headguards in the UK?

Yeah I remember an article from a couple of years ago at how surprised the Cubans are when they go abroad for the tournaments and they see the luxuries people had compared to them, so I guess when they jump ship from Cuba they get easily distracted.

a lot of pressure on them but their results in the olympics speak for themselves. plus the likes of gamboa and rigondeaux do no too bad in the pro's. makes you wonder how they achieve all this with such basic equipment and methods?

Thats what I was thinking. It seems in the UK for every sport now the athlete has a huge team of nutrtitionists, conditioners, video analysts etc etc etc but athletes from these poor countries still end up with top conditioning and technique. Makes you wonder if we go over the top in terms of analysis. A lot of the old fighters seem to think so.

I enjoyed that documentary mate and so did the Mrs, thanks very much :TU:

04: 30 in the morning the poor blighters and then off to school :o ......i wonder what time they get to kip....I'm not surprised that kid was always down the pastry shop, I bet them kids spend a lot of time being hungry. It's no life for a nipper.

The exercises they were doing were very inventive they're developing virtually every muscle in the body. Humbling.
