Wrists, you do a bit of moaning in this yourself pal :)
Overall I agree with a lot of it, though not your prediction. I'm plumping for Groves.
Some good points though, twas an interesting read mate.

Re: DeGale v Groves - My thoughts
Interesting article.
Personally I enjoyed the Ringside segment, I know others didn't. However I'm not sure it's true to say the British don't like flashy boxers or even boxers that smack talk. The criticism was more that DeGale is not very good at it and so inadvertently comes off inarticulate and a bit thick (when I'm sure he's not).
Incidentally I could see DeGale following the Naz/Eubank path of playing the big headed "villain" at domestic level but turning into a well supported fighter at European/World class level.

Re: DeGale v Groves - My thoughts
Should get people talking; slightly abrasive, no nonsense, accurate and to the point. I liked it anyway.
Can't argue with DeGale's talent, and I'm not one of these people who wants Groves to win because he's the nicer guy.
I just feel he's a quality operator who's being underestimated.
I reckon he'll stick around and make this tough for Chunky, pulling out a points win. Will be a hell of a scrap.

I agree Groves has taken too much stick for the Anderson performance. I hope his team can make sure he learns the right lessons from it.
I'm a fan of both Groves and DeGale and can't wait for the fight.

Im one of them whos never happy....PPV my arse!!! Top fight but if we start paying this PPV bollox for fights that aint worthy Mr W will expect it all the time!! Degale in 6-7 i think(hope im wrong) good article tho
Re: DeGale v Groves - My thoughts
I just think DeGale is the absolute business (could be wrong)
I can see Groves being hit early and hurt early and I dont think, as good as he is, that chin is his strong suit.
DeGale for me earlyish

Re: DeGale v Groves - My thoughts
I'm to look forward to the bout; they are both very good and young and ambitious. It is a good match up. It should not cost £15 to watch it though.
Re: DeGale v Groves - My thoughts
Amen to that
Still buying it though!!!

Re: DeGale v Groves - My thoughts
These types of fights aren't made very often, it's refreshing to see two unbeaten guys put it on the line.
I'm going for Groves.

Re: DeGale v Groves - My thoughts
your rant doesnt explain groves's cockiness before the fight was made & his humbling anderson victory.wrists you just get sucked in by all the hype & hysteria. degale is not a banger :!: he's hurtfull & flurrys his punches, but as showed v smith who he was hitting flush pretty often & never had him hurt or unsteady i think degale wins on pts & i aint even sure off it as groves is very capable.
Re: DeGale v Groves - My thoughts
Like the article, spot on1
Groves has half the talent of DeGale and will be out of there by the 5th. Look forward to this fight massively.
Deffo going to the 02 for it.

Re: DeGale v Groves - My thoughts
There's more in a fight than talent alone. Though I think on past performance DeGale will win I feel it will be very hard fought. Groves is powerful and has bottle; he wants to win. Booth will have a good plan in mind and it should be a great bout.
Re: DeGale v Groves - My thoughts
Yep thats my only gripe im happy to pay £15 for it but how many casual sports fans will buy it. I just fear this fight will not get the exposure or viewers it deserves and pass relatively under the radar.simon fox wrote:I'm to look forward to the bout; they are both very good and young and ambitious. Re: DeGale v Groves - My thoughts
From what I've read on here very few have been moaning about Degale-Groves, certainly not an amount to warrant an article based on the subject IMOWrists wrote:Afternoon All

We should be celebrating the fact that the fight's on at such an early stage in boths careers, it's a groundbreaking fight that should be celebrated. It shows that boxing is progressing with the times and is becoming a more fan-friendly sport (less padded records, early competitive fights, less emphasis on the dreaded 'O'), which is surely a better topic for an article rather than highlighting a few dickheads comments about Dave Coldwell winning bids and not staging the fight
It's a well written piece Kevin, I'm just not a fan of the negative title and the negative parts of the article (Coldwells bid, Booths training schedule for Haye/Groves, Brits don't like Glamour/confidence) when we should be celebrating the fact that the fight's on and this could start a new boxing era
(Kevin, I hope this post is viewed as constructive, as that's how it is intended)

Re: DeGale v Groves - My thoughts
For me that's the main issue with fights of less and less importance (in terms of world belts etc) going to PPV - it doesn't grow the sport in this country. Yes - most of us want to see this fight and will end up forking out the 15 quid but casual sports fans wont pay it and even though it may end up being a sound business decision by sky it reduces the exposure our sport has to the casual viewers and therefore prohibits the sport growing.kingfinn wrote:Yep thats my only gripe im happy to pay £15 for it but how many casual sports fans will buy it. Re: DeGale v Groves - My thoughts
A very moany article.
We are all very happy that this fight has been made.
I agree with what DeGale said on Ringside in that he is improving all the time and is learning rapidly. I'm not sure the same can be said about Groves and that's why I think this will be an easy win for DeGale.
I genuinely did not believe DeGale would amount to much when he first turned pro and looked forward to the day when the late Darren Sutherland could bash him up, but DeGale has surprised everybody with some really impressive performances.
It's a shame that this looks set to end up on PPV as it should be a fight on regular Sky and shown in pubs up and down the country.

Great fight, credit to Degale and Groves for taking this. British Boxing needs more of these type of fights!

Re: DeGale v Groves - My thoughts
These guys may end up having a rematch for the European title or higher, so fair play for taking each other on now as they could have let it simmer for a huge fight later in their careers.
