Tyson & the ear

Post by sammy_2005 »

Can anyone tell me the year that Tyson took the bite of the ear?
I heard that the ear he bit off actually sold at a auction, is this true?
Its been so long that memory doesn't serve me, was the biting of the ear a result of Tyson knowing he was losing the fight?

The year was 1997 during the rematch with Holyfield.
The ear was surgically reattached to Evander.

It is speculative to say that Tyson wanted to bite because of the headbutts from Holyfield. Fact is that Evander was leading after 3 round by 29-26 on all cards. Tyson was frustrated as things were not going his way.

He was fighting better than the first time and was 4lb lighter, and faster than first time around. Still it looked like Holy is gettign the better of it and Tyson couldnt hurt Evander.

It's so ironic that Iron(less) Mike was upset by Holyfield's headbutting, yet it's these tactics that the big coward used against Kevin McBum!!! :o

I sincerely hope that this sorry excuse for a boxer has fought his last fight, but somehow I doubt it!

There could be no excuses this time. Tyson knew what he was up against. He wasn't taking Holy lightly. He just knew that Holy was the better man. Tyson couldn't mix it with the best and IMO cannot be classed as a top 10 HW

I remeber watching the fight with friends, but it seemed that Tyson was actually doing pretty good for himself...until he started munching! I always liked Tyson, but my ex always rooted against him!

When watching the film live in the UK at about 4am! When Holyfield was first bit and jumped up and down and waved his arms around, for a horrible split second I thought that Holyfield was having some sort of epileptic fit.

I agree Tyson has lost much of his fighting abilities. A good boxer in his younger days. Thinking Tyson has came back into to boxing mainly to clear up his money problems. He still has some good moves, he's not quick as he was years earlier.
I had forgotten about the headbutting, even so, to bite the ear of another boxer, that was?
PPV for Tyson=a waste of good money. His fights don't go far. But of course to miss any PPV fight. They usually come on the next weekend on HBO.

Where did the piece of ear get to? I've seen probably thousands of pics of women that the ear may have been surgically attached to teeheehee :D

Someone held onto it after doctors tried to reattach it but couldn't. They tried to sell it at some later point, but couldn't

Would be a good boxing match. Question is would Tyson go the full mile. Will Tyson ever have a good fight that isn't on PPV? It is a watse to pay money, like $50 or more for a PPV fight and it last only a couple of rounds. Both of Tyson's PPV I wanted to buy. Had this feeling after the first one the second would not be worth the bucks. Klitscho is a good boxer, I don't think Tyson could make it long in a fight with him.

1996

Sold at an auction? No, Holyfield's ears were surgically restored.

And yes, I do think Tyson bit Holyfield in order to quit, but keep his aura of terror and invincibility around him. What he did was obviously not something done in one moment of rage(I'm sorry, but biting someone on the ear is just not a normal reflexive response), and he had to know it would get him disqualified, especially the second time. In light of his recent attempt to do the same thing against McBride(Except he couldn't reach Kevin's ears  ), I have no doubt this is the case.
