In the UK there is a tradition of "dinner shows" for amateur boxing as well as open shows. Black ties & tuxedos, mainly businessmen in the audience. Are there similar events to these in the US ?

Yes there are similar type shows in the US. The team I coach competes in several black tie events each year. Most major cities have fancy athletic clubs and they like to host these type of events for their members.
