Gil Clancy passes away at 88

I saw this on fightnews, and it really has saddened me. He was not only a great trainer and manager, he was also one of my favorite fight announcers.

He and Angelo Dundee made a great color commentary team on CBS. They were like two Yodas He had mostly retired from actively handling fighters by that time but he was a terrific old-school fight game character who really influenced my formative years as a boxxing fan.

He was a true tv color commentator. He was brilliant. He knew what he was talking about. He and Tim Ryan were a perfect team for CBS back in the 80s. Truly will be missed.

Gil Clancy helped create the standards in boxing.

The first fight I watched covered by Gil Clancy was Duran v Barclay (Clancy and Bernstein, dream team!).
One of those rare people who, when he started talking you just had to listen. If he had a motto I would bet it was 'quality not quantity'.
Gil Clancy's friends and family can be really proud of the work he did, I'm sure millions enjoyed listening to him as much as I did.

If you look at the fighters he was involved with and you actually listen to what he says when commentating you wouldrank him as the greatest trainer of all time. He wasnt a yes man, a hype man like so may you see today.

Boxing was ingrained in him.

A true great and a massive loss for those who love the sport.

Gill was all class, I always looked forward to his take on things. He had a good life, and many of us will miss him.

I'm very saddened by this news. One special memory: getting George Foreman off the canvas twice to defeat Ron Lyle who'd also been down twice in their 1976 slugfest.
