i think he was paid out after getting stuffed around while mandatory for 2 years. don't know if it was true or not though.

his opponent is no good, but he is on the undercard of helenious and peter so he may be trying to get a fight with one of them next.
it would be a good fight if he could fight either the winner or loser. better than fighting nobody at all.

i know its annoying that he is fighting a bum but it is better to fight every month than fight 1 average guy every 10 months.

He can no longer do anything at a high level. He is clearly not the same fighter he once was. At his best he would have beaten or been very competitive with the version of Chagaev that he was outclassed by. At this point it's all about finding guys to cash out against.

i believe if he had lead up fights pre the chagaev fight instead of being inactive for 2 years he would have won. his timing was terrible in the first half of the fight and he was clearly getting better as the fight went on. and he landed better shots nearer the end. chagaev commented that he was surprised how good kalis power was.

u can't expect to beat guys like chagaev with a lead up like that.

so i think he would be competitive against nearly anybody tbh. of course the klits r on another level though to everybody not just him.

its just ignorant people who would say that. kali has plenty to offer. the fact that he couldn't get anybody to fight him for 2 years, even though he offered the no.1 ranking as a prize tells u that most of the top 20 fighters think if meehan turns up fit and hasn't been inactive, that it will be an extremely tough night for them.

it also shows u how precious promoters r getting. they all want their fighters to travel the easiest possible route to get to a shot at the title, but then when their fighter gets a shot they r usually far too inexperienced to be able to compete with the title holder.

Someone on another forum mentioned that Kali may fight the winner of Marrone-Williamson in an eliminator. Obviously that would be a very winnable fight for him. Not sure how much truth there is in these claims though.

I think it's the same in many countries. There are usually swing bouts on any televised bill. Say a couple of four or six-rounders. They can fill the gap if, say, Fight A is scheduled for 8pm and Fight B for 9pm, then Fight A ends very early. And then if there has been no gap in the running order big enough to fit in the swing bout(s), they're put on at the end.
