Don't you think that these guys that go out with Marsh or Jordan are just as bad wannabes?
Its not as if they don't know what these girls are like, and they all act surprised when they girls sell the story.
All as bad as each other.

Garry went out with Marsh before she was famous
Re: garry delaney
I don't think that negates the point as she would clearly have had ambitions in that direction even if she hadn't realised them at that point.Coco wrote:Garry went out with Marsh before she was famous

Without wanting to get too technical, an intention to kill is not the only way a murder conviction can be obtained. If a person intends to cause someone "really serious harm" and as a result of that intention the victim dies then it is also murder. I don't think an ex-boxer has a leg to stand on here. Given the facts of the case Delaney clearly knew that by punching the guy he would hurt him and cause serious harm. That is enough for the requisite intention and given that the guy then died it is murder.

good point raised by steve dow but then maybe we should question the degree of murder as they do in America, but guess thats another argument .Everyone including boxers have a right to self defence but they cant over step the mark, just because you can fight doesnt mean you can go to town on someone whose silly enough to throw a punch at you guess it shows the fine line we all walk that if we're involved in a conflict, best to walk away but not always that easy.As regard jodie marsh she went out with garry well before she was famous, if that is what she is

Think the elephant in the room is that Delaney was an excellent boxer who lost his way and was a pretty heavy face in East London. We know that doormen get up to some shady stuff and that some of the fame hungry women like to powder their nose; they also get a lot of attention from 'ordinary joes' who do not fit into their 'life plans'. Muscle is a good way to get a bit of free gear and keep the riff raff at bay.

what everyone is doing here is judging garry on reputation and what they have read in the papers/internet, as garry's brother i was at the trial everyday and what you need to remember there was two people being aggressive towards him (one had a bottle and threatend to stab garry if he came any nearer)what was proved in court was that the punch that landed (a straight jab) did not kill the man,he was knocked off balance and on falling back he hit his head on the floor, garry walked back into the hotel to report the incident to the head doorman, he was told to go home as it was nearly closing time and the head doorman would deal with it,
an ambulance was called by a member of the public and on arrival they checked the man over and decided he was ok to go on his way,it was four days later that the man went to hospital feeling unwell?? , he was kept in under obbs and during the time in hospital it was decided that he needed a operation, so three days after that during the operation the man passed away, it turned out that the man had a kidney transplant 10 months before and was on medication and because of this the doctors couldn't use the normal medication that would be used in the opp,
also at the trial the judge wanted to drop the murder charge to manslaughter because he said that it's been proved that the punch did not kill, also the jury were told off by the judge because they were heard talking about what they had seen on the net about garry by a so called model from essex, there is a lot more to garry's case that never got into the press because the truth dont sell papers does it,???
the only thing that gets to me is that the jury did not convict garry on the facts of the trial they convicted him on what they read on the internet.
and for any of you that might be intrested garry is doing good and he still gets loads of support from the boxing world

Why didnt the judge discharge the jury immediately then? My friend was in a similar case where he would have pleaded guilty to manslaughter but they opted for the murder charge and he was found not guilty as they could not prove he intended to kill him. If everything you wrote was proven in court i cant understand how he was charged with murder.
Re: garry delaney
Good; I'm glad he's doing alright. He boxed a man I know; John Oxenham; Garry beat him well and John; who did not really give many compliments about men he fought said he was very heavy handed and that the body punches he was hit with really hurt him. It was the first time that John had been put down amateur or pro, (he'd had almost 100 amateur bouts). John went on a lads holiday to Magaluf or some such place and got talking to a group from West Ham/Plaistow. He told them he'd boxed Garry and they said that Garry and Mark were men not to be messed around with. They were heavy men and had a real reputation in their area. Everyone makes mistakes in life and Garry is paying a heavy price for (at most) 10 minutes of madness.Darcy Delaney wrote:simon fox wrote:Think the elephant in the room is that Delaney was an excellent boxer who lost his way and was a pretty heavy face in East London. The last time I spoke to John he said that if he knew where Garry was he'd write; John trains amateurs in Doncaster.

If I got the wrong end of a second hand stick all I can do is apologise. People can get a wrong impression about someone they've never met. Next time I see John I'll tell him that Garry is coping ok. I saw that Mark was to run the London Marathon to fund raise; hope it goes well.

a kidney transplant would not help nor hinder the treatment for an intra-cranial bleed, nor does a kidney transplant mean the man had a weaker chin, i heard it was a straight powerful shot that delaney threw, and not a 'jab' as has been described here.
shame the tool did not throw more meaningful punches during the twilight of his professional career, when he resembled more of a tomato can than an athlete.

Re: garry delaney
If it was established that he'd thrown a jab, it's extremely unlikely that he'd be safely convicted for murder - you need to have the intent to cause very serious harm or death for a murder conviction (or at least think it a virtual certainty that death/serious injury will result). Any half-decent defence lawyer would argue that the fact he didn't throw a hook or uppercut or straight right, knowing as a trained boxer that these are more lethal blows, shows restraint (and therefore, no intent to cause GBH). The judge must not have thought it certain that he really threw a jab, so that factual issue would be left to the jury to decide. If it was established that he did throw a jab, there could be grounds for an appeal if the judge directed the jury that they could find Delaney guilty of murder anyway.
The fact that the doctors couldn't operate using a particular medication owing to the victim's condition is immaterial; under English law you "take your victim as you find him", and any unusual condition the victim might suffer from will not interfere with your being responsible so long as your actions are an "operating and substantial" cause of death. Delaney's actions were obviously pretty substantial in the man's death, even if under different circumstances he might have survived.
The issues with the jury (ie not dismissing them) might also be grounds for an appeal if it can be shown that there is a good chance what they read on the Internet prejudiced the trial. Given that this was relating to his character - allegedly violent - this is certainly possible. The big challenge here would be proving that a) the trial judge did not sufficiently deal with the jury's actions at the time; appeal courts prefer to deal with points of law, not the factual findings of judges and b) what they read was prejudicial in light of what the jury had already heard and seen.

I've seen it done by a someone to a man whose only crime was that he happened to be trying to enter a club with an extremely ugly, drugged up, trouble making old skank of a woman who was shooting dirty, paranoid looks at the door staff from 10 yards away. They let her stay in the queue oblivious to the fact her behaviour had already marked her out before politely turning her away.
The bloke involved had done jack all wrong except become associated with this crank, who then goaded him into "protecting her honour"..... he then got a slap for his trouble though luckily the punch only grazed his whiskers cos he was moving backward. I know the lad who did it has matured a lot since then and he never punched like Delaney obviously can.
Put it this way, I'm a fittish guy I can bench 60/ 70 kg given a couple days to get back into it and I throw a decent shot. Never had a boxing bout in my life, and unless my safety was in danger or somebody else's I couldn't crack a fella over something silly because I don't trust my own strength.
Now for a pro boxer training 6-8 times a week hitting bags/ pads/ balls/ sparring etc....what the fck satisfaction can you get out of clattering an average Joe off the street??
60/70kg thats light as a feather....
Re: garry delaney
Things happen sometimes when someone, boxer or otherwise HAS to throw a punch. In the heat of the moment what do you expect the boxer to do? ask the bloke steaming into him if he has ever boxed?NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:I think any boxer that deliberately aims a punch at the man in the street is sick.

I've boxed for 20 years but weigh 10 stone soaking wet. When you get a big pissed up bloke more than capable of causing damage to you. Being aggressive, do I not protect myself by getting in first. Because I box. No. Instinct kicks in & you stand & protect yourself. In court id be in trouble because I know hoe to hold my hands up & I really do think that's wrong .
