I think Billy is a good fighter, the thing he has going for him is Tibbs, this is a man who will show him how to fulfill his full potential..

I think he has got a good future. Done what he had to do last night. Looking at that guys record last night I thought it may have been a late stoppage or points decition but he done well to get him out of there. Throws a lot of punches but picks them well. Keep forgetting he's only 22 so he will only get better with a good trainer in Jimmy. Who's next for Billy?

nice busy style, I do think his right hook needs work, he throws it a bit slappy. Will have to see how he does under pressure. And what is his best weight division? Is he a full middle now?

Was thinking that myself Ian, he's rated at Supermiddle on boxrec but think he will stick to Middleweight for the next few years. Middleweight is not the strongest so he could make a bit of noise there.

Always thought he looks a bit fleshy and could easily drop down to light middle.

looked fleshy to me too. i think the match up was poor as a supporting fight on a live card, it should have been the 3 or 4th tier fight.

I like watching Saunders, he's very game.

Not sure he'll go that far though, given the depth at middleweight.

But in his favour, Billy is only 21 and has plenty of time to bring his game on.

I don't think he's ever going to be a really cut boxer, someone like Tony Sibson was the same, looked to be carrying a bit of weight , even when in top condition.

I am curious to know who will go further ...Billy Joe Saunders or Tyson Fury ??
Will ether one of the surpass Henry Wharton achievements as European and commonwealth SM Weight champion ?
Wharton is still the highest achiever to date from a Romany traveling background :box:

BJ Saunders is a Romany traveller whilst Tyson is from the Irish traveller community.

Coming out of the Olympics BJ was my tip to go furthest as a pro out of the GB squad.

Whilst Gavin and Degale have made all the headlines thus far, if BJ can stay injury free and in the gym he may well catch that pair up and box for major pro titles down the line.

I thought Fury was an Irish Traveller? Didn't he try and box for Ireland as well as England?

Anyway as for Saunders; he has nice shots, but last nght he might as well have been hiiting a heavy bag..... there was no resistance of value.

Though he looks good, I guess the jury is out

At least his hand seems ok now, we need to see him back in action soon. Ideally in the next month.

They need to stop bringing this kind of opponent over. I went to a whole show (Khan V St Clair) that featured opponents like this, it DOES make the home fighter look good, but shockingly one sided.

I tipped Saunders to go the furthest of the Olympians but having seen Gavin up close there's a lot of subtle naunces to his work that you don't get to appreciate on TV.

Henry was also British champ and lost none of those titles in the ring.

Saunders is excellent and is obviously a bit concerned about reinjuring his hands; he went to the body far harder than to the head. It'd be a shame if his bad hands slow him down more. He can really fight and looks physically very strong.

:TU: completely agree

I have completely changed my call on the three Olympians since they turned over - I tipped Saunders to go the furthest - I thought he had to most power of the three. Now I am appreciating James' size and strength at Super Middle.... and while I still feel Gavin could do with a bit more pop and I worry about his skin - he is by far the most technically correct of the three.

Now I think Saunders will be least successful and not sure who will be most successful - I guess it depends on the devision. I can see Degale winning a world title really soon, the issue for Gavin is that there are only 2 champions at 140 lbs currently. Gavin vs Khan is MOUTHERWATERING though..... completely different ball game in terms of anticipation than Degale vs Groves.

I thought he may turn into a Peter Richardson part two - Clearly got skill but rice paper for skin, but it would seem Gavin's adjusted his style somewhat and the last few performances have been very technical, accurate and measured - patient in a word. Obviously if people are going to make it hard for him and try and crowd the room he is making then the odd clash of heads etc may still happen but I've seen a distinct improvement in his work which usually could be attributable to matchmaking on the way up, but I really don't think that's the case here.

Maybe he's just rushing less. I don't know. Maybe it's just part of the maturing process, he's well settled into the pro game now. I watched his last fight with 2 complete boxing noobs, who had never seen any live boxing before. They both said to me...wow...he's really good, you can tell he knows what he's doing in there - more so than anyone else on the card.

DeGale I've now seen close up twice, that he's quick and got some power doesn't really need saying. I've seen nothing new in him really since he started.

Tell that to Slugger O'Toole

To be fair Henry was one of my favourite fighters growing up - what a warrior!
