wrong forum bro.
Re: West MI Golden Gloves and beyond
The amateur boxing forum is the correct forum.
Re: West MI Golden Gloves and beyond
As far as predictions it is hard to say. It depends on who enters the tournament. I will say a few.
201 - My son Jordan Shimmell should win his 6th straight heavyweight title.
132 - Raeese Aleem should win his 4th title in 5 years.

Good luck to your son. Not like he needs it though.
Re: West MI Golden Gloves and beyond
I see. Thanks for the well wishes. We will take as much of it as we can. I do think winning takes a lot of hard work, skill and a little luck. Bad luck such as getting an injury or an illness can definitely get in the way. Even a small thing like the common cold can hurt a boxer's chances of winning a big tournament.crusader wrote:I know. Re: West MI Golden Gloves and beyond
Tomorrow we will be one month away from the first day of the tournament!!! I am looking forward to another great year.
I believe the Standing Room Only (SRO) crowd that we had at our show last Saturday, February 5th in Grand Rapids shows that the fans in West Michigan are excited about amateur boxing. I hope that everyone comes out and supports amateur boxing by going to the Golden Gloves tournament. When we get SRO crowds at the Armory it is amazing. The energy that fills the air is electric. I know as a coach it is great to feel the crowd's energy. I know that the boxers love it too.

Re: West MI Golden Gloves and beyond
In 6 days the West Michigan Golden Gloves will start. After the registration and weigh-in, the brackets will be prepared. We will then know who has entered and made weight. It will be a very interesting tournament since it is an Olympic qualifying year.
Re: West MI Golden Gloves and beyond
The East Michigan Golden Gloves had its preregistration yesterday and they have 4 superheavyweights and 3 heavyweights in the open class. Therefore, it looks like there will be two bouts for my son Jordan in the Michigan Golden Gloves State Championships.
Re: West MI Golden Gloves and beyond
The first night of the West MI GG concluded an hour or two ago. The crowd was very good for an opening night. There was only one open class bout tonight along with a bunch of novice, sub-novice and junior bouts.
Re: West MI Golden Gloves and beyond
The West MI GG finals were Friday. My two predictions came true. My son Jordan Shimmell won the 201 pound class and Raeese Aleem won the 132 pound class.

178: James Guy, Sugar Tony's

Interesting to see Pinky down at 141. Surprised he can make that weight, he is big even at 152.
