john murray... can he beat the best

Post by cakes »

Watched him at the weekend an was a bit disappointed, a love to watch him at his best but just not too sure weather he can up his game to world level . He's in a top division and a lot of good domestic fights but can he really reach world honours ??????? Your thoughts guys ?????????

I haven't seen anything that suggests he would beat the best in the division. He is a poor man's Brandon Rios.

He gets caught too many times with cheap shots. He has no plan 'b' either. We will never win a legit world title. I hope he meets Kevin Mitchell though, that would be a good scrap.

He's capable, but really needs moving up in class sooner the better.

Juan Diaz would be a perfect gauging fight for him now. Diaz has regressed from his prime but he's still a world class fighter! Perfect fight for him at this stage and to get his name in America and higher in the world rankings!

No way! I was hoping for big things from Murray earlier in his career but he has just not improved in the key areas such as defense, ring generalship and technique. He is slow, predictable and very hittable. I think Mitchell should be next and that he will struggle with Kevins speed.

I also feel he has beaten nobody good enough to deserve a world
title shot although in today's game this doesn't make much odds.

I don't think he punches hard enough either. You need to bang a bit at the top level, and he just doesn't have that really hurtful punch in his locker. He's more of a 'wear you down' type, but at the top level I think you need a bit more than that.

I like watching him fight though :TU:

Exciting TV fighter who works very hard but don't see him excelling against the best. Has never looked a 'can't miss prospect' to me. Sorry.

31-0, beat the best europe has to offer (except Mitchell) and has been out of the ring for 7 months. This guy deserves a shot at higher class opposition, even if he loses.

I have never been a big Mitchell fan but thnk he missed an opportunity when he could have been in the opposite corner on Saturday night. The Mitchell that beat Prescott would have beat Murray the other night. Maybe thats who they should bring in next for Murray if the Mitchell fight can't be made.

There are better technical boxers and harder hits at the top. Murray may win a world title, but I don't think he's good enough to unify or reign.

Gavin Rees, Crolla - might argue that they should be among the best Europe has to offer. What about Mezzache also - the guy who beat Thaxton.

I don't think Thaxton and Buckland at their respected stages were Europes finest.

I think he can but not this year, fight Mitchell, Crolla and Rees over next six months and if he gets through them move him on as this will not only give him tough fights but also experience of being pressured

He's with the right promoter to select the right belt at the right time.

But winning a belt and "beating the best" are different things entirely.

Look at Ricky Burns.

Martinez was no 2 when Burns beat him.His defeces have left a lot to be desired but you cant fault his belt winning performance.Look at Froch, only won a vacant title and then lost to a guy coming off a bad beating to a guy considered the divisions number one yet can do no wrong on here.Go figure.
