Correct, yet it also ring fighting, fought over rounds on promotions of multiple bouts with, usually, a main event.Brute wrote:Thai boxing is a different sport.dberry wrote:Thai boxing , in Thailand, usually has the main event a fight or two before the last fight.
Re: Meehan is back
Apparently Kali is now being mentioned as a possible participant in the upcoming International Prizefighter tournament. All these rumors!!

French HW Gregory Tony is also in, but isn't appearing on the BoxRec schedule yet. I think Kali can do well against these types of opponents.

Re: Meehan is back
i just fear that kali can be a slow starter and could have trouble winning on points in a 3 rounder if he doesn't get the ko.
Re: Meehan is back
time to take the next step in his life.
I've also heard the least fight of the night (after the main event) refered to as a 'walk-out' bout. Seems to be more prevallent in the states than here.

Re: Meehan is back
Most of his recent fights have ended with Kali stopping his opponent in three rounds or less.buster007 wrote:i just fear that kali can be a slow starter and could have trouble winning on points in a 3 rounder if he doesn't get the ko.

Re: Meehan is back
Yeah Meehans back alright, back 50 places, his best was Brewster and he's never been close since,
Queue Brute.......Kali has won his last 2 fights and once beat DaVarryl Williamson by stoppage, he lost once to Ruslan Chagaev. Kali hasn't been stopped since Rahman which was in 2004, He's beaten every bum( Hounddawgs interpretation) since his 2 year lay off. He hits hard........really did the KO record give it away, cause records is all you know, ability seems to elude you.
Just saying, he's ripe for the picking( Not even the best in Australia) and a David Haye candidate for sure.

Re: Meehan is back
brute,
i thought u knew a little about boxing.
beating bums inside 2/3 should be the norm for a fighter of kali's level. ko'ing these guys in the tournament inside 3 rounds is different all together. surely u r aware of that:)

Re: Meehan is back
Oquendo is the highest rated of the 5 at 42 and he has lost his last two fights. Johnson is the only other one ranked under 50.
They are hardly creme de la creme. Airich is rated 135.

Re: Meehan is back
For the most part I think those guys are decent heavyweights. I would rather see evenly matched fights between these types of fighters than a top 5 guy destroying some overmatched opponent.
Re: Meehan is back
Buster and the dawg are rabbiting on as if they are World title contenders.
I don't see what the big deal is with these 3 rounders. Cedric Kushner ran a similar tournament and the results are not even on the fighters' records.

when these tournaments have decent lineups it provides a full night of entertainment, as opposed to one headline fight and a load of shite

Alex has been matched pretty skillfully lately, good on him and his team.dan h wrote:Read in today's paper that it is Leapia v Meehan next. Should be a good fight - hopefully on fox friday night fights
Re: Meehan is back
I just saw the super middle tourney ( odd that most of them were full sized light heavyweights) . If Kali goes into this tournament and Ian John-Lewis is a judge Kali had better go for the doctor. Wayne Reed knocked Joe Ainscough down in the third round and John-Lewis gave Ainscough 30-28. It was the only knockdown in the fight and it was a real good one. Ainscough won a split decision. Disgraceful.funso banjo baby wrote:Brute wrote:Buster and the dawg are rabbiting on as if they are World title contenders.

Leapia V Meehan now I would pay to see that.
Re: Meehan is back
According to today's Sun Herald " Kali Meehan has started negotiating with New Zealand powerhouse David Tua to determine the champion of the Southern Cross.
Meehan and his manager, Adam Watt, hope to stage the fight before the end of the year.
Meehan, who has had fight after fight fall through, said it would breathe life back into Australasia's heavyweight ranks. 'We've both fought for the world heavyweight titles, we've both made our nales on the world stage and we're both from the southern hemisphere ' Meehan said. 'We have an opportunity to give the public a fight they want to see.'

Whatever happens, this fight is well overdue.
