How does that work?

Post by franko1990 »

How can Jason LeHoullier be rated in the Australian rankings after only 2 fights here, but Vic Darchinyan is still Armenian and he's had 20+ fights here

Boxers are rated where they reside or mainly fight. Some request they be rated where they were born. Such is the case with Darchinyan

Yeah mate. It went on & on & on & on. Hence the reason Nationality was replaced with Rating. Even so there's still whingers - fight fans not boxers themselves.

I was one of many editors that was of the opinion ratings should be ditched, as at the end of the day they really mean SFA.
e.g. What farkin good is Darch's numero uno in Armenia??

Had a biff with a few editors, who claimed I was still Slovene even tho I lived in OZ for 50 years & naturalized

Apart from the 1 million protestant Irish who are perfectly happy with the fact that there are two.

As long as they can stop Tykes getting trade apprenticeships.

Protestants in the Republic are treated a lot better than Catholics in Ulster.

If you are going to use ethnic slurs, please use the correct ones. A Tyke is someone from Yorkshire. I think the ethnic slur you are looking for in this context is Taig.

From Wikipedia:

Tyke may refer to:

Tyke (character), an MGM cartoon character
Tyke (dialect), the varieties of English used in the Northern England historic county of Yorkshire
Tyke, a Roman Catholic - Australian slang
Tyke (dog), a dog whose ancestry is generally unknown and that has characteristics of two or more types of breeds
Tyke (elephant), a female circus elephant
Tyke (given name), an American masculine given name
Tyke, a name given to people from Yorkshire

Brute used the term: "Tyke" as it is used in Australian slang: a Roman Catholic.

I went to Catholic Schools. The grammar school boys called us tykes, among other things.

I have never known Yorkshiremen to be called anything but "Yorkies."

Interesting, I have lived in Australia all my life and have yet to hear the term tyke used to describe a catholic. I obviously don't mix in the right circles. :D

I can believe it though; imagine hearing the word taig pronounced with a Belfast accent for the first time...

There is, of course, only one island of Ireland, but there are two politically distinct nations occupying it. I'm not getting into the debate of whether there should be one Ireland or not, but as it stands, they are politically separate nations.

There is only one Borneo, but three nations sit on it. One New Guinea, but two countries. And so on.
