Ways for the "contendor" to gain ratings.

Post by stujones »

Ok, for this thread you are Sly or Sugar and have been told by the bosses at NBC, "we are giving you the benefit of the doubt and granting the contendor a second series, but the format needs to change to gain ratings" - what would you do to alter the show, think not only as a boxing fan but as viewer who might be interested in the drama.

I personally quite liked the show, but I think there are lots of ways to make it better. Here are some of my suggestions.

1) Maybe a long period of "getting to know" the fighters, maybe film them over a few months training together maybe covering maybe 4-5 weeks the show before fights. It will generate the characters - who you like as a person, who you don't like.

2) Have the viewers voting for one of the fighters, for example if Sly picks a one of the favourites the viewers might be more likely to vote for the hate figure, for a beating.

3) Have mentors come in to offer advice, such as a Mike Tyson figure.

4) Get rid of the games to win the right to choose your opponent, that will be a viewers votes.

5) Get rid of the East/West thing, not needed.

6) Get them to move together from the off, can create some real tension between the fighters - nothing sells better than a grudge madge, we didn't see many of these in the last series.

7) When it comes to the fight shows, maybe show 30 minutes of the more recent event and then 30 minutes of the fight in full.

8) No Bronze medal match, but a 10 round final.

Oh yes, it is a good one.

Props for David for mentioning it previously.

I think that using heavyweight automatically will boost the ratings eventhough they might not be as good boxers as in other weightclasses (and the chance of KOs probably increase)

Yep the more global approach could be a real winner.

Germans/Eastern Europe

Oceania/Asia

UK/Europe

US/Sth America

It was good to see Antonio Tarver and Angelo Dundee on the show but i agree more world class boxers coming on and giving advice wouldnt go amiss

The problem is any half decent heavyweight prospect will already be tied up to a promotional contract. What you'd end up with is a load of fat clubfighters.

I think the viewers vote would be a good idea early in the show, would help to boost ratings too :TU:
