Totally agree Ben. Who else is bringing these types of fights to our backyard?? Green is bringing big names to aust for us local fans to enjoy first hand! Im not going to pretend to be an expert but i am a big fan of boxing whilst attempting to avoid the lure of MMA!!

Whilst i love watching the local cards Fox put on its only GREEN that is bringing world class fighters or "future hall of fame fighters" to our shores.... people seem to have forgotten that GREEN was 5 to 1 to beat JONES when he came down under!! (Thanks for that...paid for my trip to syd!!) alright forget BRIGGS nothing more to say....... BJ was more than a legit fight and a lot bigger than GREEN (im talking size) and i thought GREEN fought a great tactical fight. (not pretty but got the job done) then he has his medical issues after that fight and to go straight into a fight with TARVER (another hall of famer in the future) well Im stoked!! and as such i will be making the trip east to see it. TARVER is big and has a lot more POP than BJ so Green will need more tricks than POWER alone!! That said GREEN has no chance!! Tell everyone you know!! I want similar odds to the RJJ fight!! another free trip over east... BRING IT ON!!

I don't think you'll like the odds on this one mate, I expect Green to be a pretty heavy favourite.

Sounds like we can have another BoxRec blokes catch up though!!! This time I reckon Pyrmont Bridge Hotel for the best $7 steak in Sydney and a few brews before the fight.

Green is 38 for fucks sake, its like people on here think he is a prime fighter that needs to prove himself.

I think Green Vs Tarver is a great fight between to guys towards the end's of there careers.
but green appears to be in good form, its not so much about his age, its the form.
tarver is past his prime and inactive. something that makes this fight intersting though is tarver always had good power, so there could be fireworks.
i wont lie, i'll still watch it (not paying though) hopefully there is a decent undercard

amwsnw wrote:I agree Ben. When Green landed some counter shots on BJ it made him hesitant to come in, even though he was landing when he did. I would be confident in saying that if Tarver lands he wont be backing up. Green wont back up so as long as it lasts I see this being entertaining.
Some seem to think Green is 28, undefeated and has the entire world at his feet. That is not the case. I would love to have seen Cunningham out here, but shit this is a good fight, especially to bring someone of Tarvers standing in the world of boxing to our shores. As long as Tarver comes in fit, which at 200lbs you would expect him to be, and focused this is a very dangerous fight for Green. More dangerous than Jones in my book...and yes I picked Green to beat Jones.
Tarver was 221 for his last fight and lost his last two fights at light heavyweight. At 42 he might have trouble making 200.

Jones was world class when Greeny brought him out here. It was only after Greeny blasted him out in 2 minutes was it decided by most that he was no longer world class. Tarver has lost twice in just over two years, to who most regarded the best Light heavyweight at the time Dawson. Be negative about the fight as much as you like, but Jones and tarver are world class.

i think styles wise tarver green will be better than the fight with Jones. I dont think anybody thought Jones was world class when he fought green mate. He hadnt won a significant fight in years and had been ko'ed a couple of times

Tarver's last "significant" win was against Clinton Wood in 2008. He has lost 2 of 3 fights since then. In the same time period Green has won six and lost none.

As for his weight, as someone with his 40s well behind him I can tell you that losing weight at Tarver's age is far from easy.

Tarver is still significant, and as Ben K pointed out, not much older than Green. Tarver was the first man to stop RJJ, and it was not so long ago we, the punters, where waiting with baited breath for the outcome of Green's negotiations with Tarver. a few facts that can't be ignored is Tarver is a star of the LHW division, is a current, active fighter and he is coming to Australia to fight.

As for losing weight at his age, he is a professional athlete, should be no problem, I'm knocking on the door of forty and I've just lost 10 kg's in five weeks through healthy eating and hard training.

Thunder, dont do it. Its a trap, they will lull you into a false sense of security, buy you grog till you are legless then take you to a tattoo parlour. Next morning you wake up with " I LUV DANNY" tattooed on your forehead. :DD :DD :DD

Apparently there is a bar in Sydney where, if you're there at the right time, the beer is free, you can have anything off the top shelf, no charge, and at the end of the night you can have. As much sex as you can handle. If you like I will ask my sister for the name of the bar and place it online!

you are thinking about the illegal casinos that were operating in Sydney in the Askin era. They are long gone.
