Lemieux v Rubio (spoiler)
Rubio by 7th round TKO, and again a young puncher gets stopped after not blowing his opponent away early.
It looked like an early night for Lemieux when he had Rubio rocking in the 1st, and for the next 5 rounds it was mostly all Lemieux, but Rubio was hanging in there and although caught with big shots, didn't look overly troubled.
In the 6th Lemieux suddenly looked a bit tired, was on the back foot and wasn't throwing as much back, he really can't fight going backwards. Rubio grew in confidence and started to let some big shots go. in the 7th Lemieux came out fast and tried to get something going, but he took a big right hand and fell backwards into the ring post, luckily for him Rubio didn't follow up straight away and the ref gave Lemieux a count as the post had held him up. Rubio went for him , and after a couple of combinations the corner of Lemieux jumped up and waved to the Ref to call it off.
Rubio has pulled off a great win, and may of got himself back into title contention. Lemieux will have to regroup and see what went wrong, he just seemed to run out of energy halfway through the 6th. He can come back though, and with his speed and power he'd be a danger to any middle.

Re: Lemieux v Rubio (spoiler)
Yes I was interested to see what'd happen in this one, as Lemieux has been knocking them out for fun. Saw the last round, and it looked like Lemieux had lost interest a bit there, the punch that knocked him into the corner didn't seem to really connect, and his body language read - get me out of here.
Still, he'll probably come back a better fighter, in the same way that punchers like Benn and Haye learned from similar defeats.

I was trying to remember, who that Eastern European middleweight, or around that weight, who fights out of Germany ? He's seen as one of the hotest prospects in the world, and has been Ko'ing everyone they've put in with him. Anyone know ??
Re: Lemieux v Rubio (spoiler)
Wow - a bit of a stunner IMO, not great for the devision IMO..... Rubio has been found out so many times in the past - I really expected Lemieux to beat him comfortably at this stage of his career - well done Marco showed great character in there.

Re: Lemieux v Rubio (spoiler)
I was convinced Lemieux was going to win a world title this year and look impressive doing so, I thought Rubio would be his toughest fight and give him a few problems but I thought he'd have more than enough to deal with him! Great win for Rubio breathes new life into his career, but hopefully Lemieux learns from his mistakes and comes back a better all round boxer.
Re: Lemieux v Rubio (spoiler)
Shocking result from Lemieux really has to be putting opponents like this away with the talent he has got

I think you might be thinking of Gennady Golovkin? http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxerMightyWarrior wrote:I was trying to remember, who that Eastern European middleweight, or around that weight, who fights out of Germany ? His career's stalled this year a bit because of a contract dispute with Universum:

I think that must be him, cheers Deserter
Blimey, I didn't know he'd actually won a so called "world title" already - talk about low profile !!

It is Golivkin, this kid is gonna rule the middleweights in good time.. I personally think he's already a top 3 middleweight in the world, skills to burn and serious power!! Was an unreal amateur too!!MightyWarrior wrote:I was trying to remember, who that Eastern European middleweight, or around that weight, who fights out of Germany ? Agreed Tony, I think Golovkin is a serious talent, he seems to hardly get mentioned though by the mainstream.Bomber 1 wrote:It is Golivkin, this kid is gonna rule the middleweights in good time.. Yep he's the one I'd heard about, think you might be right about top 3, tremendous amateur too I'd heard. Just watched that Bute fight, WHAT a punch - stayed cool when Bute tried to take him out earlier in the round, then applied the finish. He looks a devastating hitter.Bomber 1 wrote:It is Golivkin, this kid is gonna rule the middleweights in good time.. I was wondering yesterday about a matchup with Lemieux, and think we now know what would have happened there. Although a big matchup down the road is still a real possibility.

Re: Lemieux v Rubio (spoiler)
Lemieux could still beat any boxer by early KO, he gets real power , speed into his punches.
unfortunatly for him last nights fight was over 12 rounds, I noticed a couple of times Lemieux was smiling out to the crowd in the early rounds. Rubio didn't change his expression at all, but in the 5th he smiled back at Lemieux and it seemed the Canadian suddenly realised that he wasn't even halfway through the fight, and Rubio was looking cool and collected. Lemieux seemed to lose all confidence in the 6th.

Re: Lemieux v Rubio (spoiler)
Bound to happen sooner or later. As mentioned previously, he should improve from that, depending on his outlook/state of mind post fight.
His team was right to get him out of there. A natural puncher, could end a fight at the drop of a hat, but needs to learn that they won't all adhere to his gameplan.
Fair play to Rubio though, I remember when he was the touted prospect getting smashed to pieces by Jantuah in a single round. Must feel good to have the shoe on the other foot.
