I obviously want the fight to go ahead like everyone else, but you've got to say well done to Sky here. They are finally implementing the kind of quality control we've all long begged for.

It ain't SKY's fault. If they thought they could turn a profit, it would still be on PPV.wesley05 wrote:Khan won't pull the plug he would never be forgiven by sky . End of day sky call the shots to British boxers unless your the legendary prince naz he took no shit

I agree with you mate. Fury vs McCall or Tua or Grant or Rahman or Toney would make some headlines.wesley05 wrote:Sky could call some favours to sort a decent bill ??keithmoonhangover wrote:It ain't SKY's fault. Obviously there are plenty of other guys out there that could be added to the bill.
I would pay for Khan an International Prizefighter on the same bill.

Re: Do you think the Khan/McCloskey fight will go ahead ?
Who exactly are the 'Team Khan' people we keep hearing about? Are we talking about the usual back slapping entourage?
Re: Do you think the Khan/McCloskey fight will go ahead ?
Did Sky mention it at all tonight ? Heard them plugging plenty of other stuff.
Re: Do you think the Khan/McCloskey fight will go ahead ?
No great loss if it's slipped through the cracks. McCloskey would've been stopped in a round or two. It's the Fury fight that's important. Hopefully it's still on the cards. It'd make for a much higher quality non-PPV Sky broadcast than we're used to.
I'm still without regret after cancelling my subscription, 2 years on. That's pathetic.

Re: Do you think the Khan/McCloskey fight will go ahead ?
Apparently McCloskey has to take a 50% pay cut to make the fight work.
Id say bollocks !
Id say bollocks !
Re: Do you think the Khan/McCloskey fight will go ahead ?
Yeh but Khan has taken a massive % pay cut also! It's still comfortably McCloskey's biggest payday. In a way I'm glad this has happened, how many more farcical PPVs do we need before Sky realise the public aint idiots? I was gona stream it all the way. WIll be very interesting to see where this fight ends up and what happens in the aftermath of all this.G0mez wrote:Apparently McCloskey has to take a 50% pay cut to make the fight work.

Re: Do you think the Khan/McCloskey fight will go ahead ?
Absolutely farcical. It makes Sky seem like a bunch of Amateurs - has there ever been a situation in which a TV company has changed their mind about a fight AFTER contracts have been signed. Sky should have been stronger from the offset and said NO - irrespective of the big sell on the Undercard - and lets be honest how much could any promoter promise of the undercard when this fight was announced.
I hope McCloskey still gets his chance.
HBO, Showtime etc would have flat out rejected/accepted McCloskey when the fight was proposed - rediculous what sky have done (although commendable to us) - why couldn't they have said yay or nay from the word go. I'm sorry but Fury vs Rahman in an 8/10 rounder doesn't make a PPV either.

Re: Do you think the Khan/McCloskey fight will go ahead ?
Not a single mention of the Khan fight on the Sky Sports broadcast but they were plugging other upcoming bouts. This doesn't sound good.mexican roadsweeper wrote:Did Sky mention it at all tonight ? Heard them plugging plenty of other stuff.
Re: Do you think the Khan/McCloskey fight will go ahead ?
On boxing scene reporting team khan want the fight on primetime ppv! I think if that the case the sales figures will be terrible. Can't see khan ever on sky again! Khan should have proper advisors not the clowns he has.johnswan1 wrote:Not a single mention of the Khan fight on the Sky Sports broadcast but they were plugging other upcoming bouts. Re: Do you think the Khan/McCloskey fight will go ahead ?
Before we start knocking Sky if this is called off, think about what we were all saying beforehand about this not being ppv material.
The reason the late decision by Sky was simply to give all parties a chance to pull a decent chief support out of the hat, They knew Fury/Rahman was not that fight but it would have ok as a fourth fight on the night behind Watson/Purdy, but that still left them one major fight short at least and the promoters/Khan could not come up with it despite the time they were given.
Also something worth thinking about is that probably the Khan Team and anyone involved in this thought that Sky would swallow and just go ppv anyway, the sales would not have been great but it would have probably made Khan's purse up to what he wanted, remember the cameras are there anyway there's bugger all cost involved for Sky.
They made the stand that boxing fans have long called for and I think they deserve a huge pat on the back, no one was looking forward to this fight more than me but if the price I have to pay is it being called off then so be it.
The PPV guys now know they have to come up with the goods for Sky to go down the ppv route so hopefully we will all benefit long term.
Kudos from me, brave decision by Smith and the team and bloody good luck to them.

Team khan are looking to put this on primetime surely that massive mistake! If fights not going to sell on sky ppv it wont sell on primetime with under a week advertising.GLOBALBOX wrote:Before we start knocking Sky if this is called off, think about what we were all saying beforehand about this not being ppv material.

Its the same scenario but you would probably find Primetime would sell there soul and let Khan have every ppv sale minus a little admin fee, just to get him on there channel in theleforge wrote:Team khan are looking to put this on primetime surely that massive mistake! Its all very well what your saying, and as a fan who PPV's I'm delighted. I still think it stinks of amateurism by Sky - since when has whether a show is PPV has depended on an undercard - in the states or over here. The Mag 7 bill maybe, but there was 7 "joint" main events there - the Khan vs Maidana PPV fell apart big style on its undercard, it still was sold as a PPV. Sky should have accepted or rejected McCLoskey as a PPV fight and not "well only if the undercard is good" - it all depended on a novice pro against an over the hill heavyweight!GLOBALBOX wrote:Before we start knocking Sky if this is called off, think about what we were all saying beforehand about this not being ppv material.

But the fight wont sell on Primetime! Amir Khan needs to ditch his advisors. Going to take the opposite opinion Stu, I think Sky have acted professionally in this, they have prompted and cajoled behind the scenes to make this show better and its not happened, so they have said, great, you can still air on our channel and we will pay x amount but we are not prepared to put this up as a ppv event. Mistakes are mistakes, they have made plenty in the past but for christs sake lets cut them some slack for putting previous wrongs right.
Fury/Rahman was never going to save it in Sky's eyes, some of you and some of the promoters might have thought so but they would not have accepted that as a ppv either, they would have been laughed out of the ring. You may not have the opinion that an undercard sells ppv but it certainly does with most of us fans. Most object to paying for one fight that is ok but if you add 3 decent matches on the undercard that we get to see, it softens the blow, it makes it seem like your hard earned is well spent.
There is no guarantee they will go to Primetime anyway, there are a lot of problems in jumping ship this late on, what kind of undercard can be provided by Khan for primetime, will Hatton allow his fighters to box on Primetime show, surely that would piss Sky off and they are his bread and butter.
Just a view but as a boxing fan of many years, I missed not seeing much of my sport on tv in the early years, now I have Sky showing the sport I love every week, some weeks (like last night) a one sided main fight, but even in that I enjoyed the Place fight and also the Warrington kid, two hours watching boxing, my question to all of you guys who moan all the time is where would we be if Sky binned the sport, in my book a bloody sight worse off.

Re: Do you think the Khan/McCloskey fight will go ahead ?
They should never have advertised it on Sky Box Office if they were not satified with the main event. They should never have advertised it on Sky Sports if it wasn't agreed by Hatton/Khan (which seems likely).
We all condemmed Premier for announcing the ESPN deal that wasn't signed - Sky, a much bigger outfit, have done exactly the same. There might have been a few who subscribed to Sky Sports to watch this fight.

Re: Do you think the Khan/McCloskey fight will go ahead ?
It was on their schedule to be on Sky Sports though, after it was dropped from Box office. It was down on their website and now taken off. It went to the press also - Boxrec News, Daily Mirror etc.
Globalbox - I hope your correct in that Fury vs Rahman wouldn't have saved this from being on PPV. Its been reported that this was critical in the decision - with Sky rejecting the likes of Meehan etc. Sky should have rejected this as a PPV at the very start instead of going its a PPV(ish).
Correct decision, but IMO amateurish and could result in the bill being scrapped and boxers not getting paid.
