Just reviewed 5 or 6 fights and got to admit, rust is definetly an issue for the lad.
Hamidi and the Spaniard saw him at his worst.
I appreciate many wrote his world chance's off after his last outing against a tougher than expected 'gimme' - but when he's in full flow and fighting regular, he does operate at a much better level than we saw. He picks his punches better and more accurately and doesn't hang around.
Personally I think Bam Bam has the higher experience right now and is really mastering his game (much in the murray mould) and think that fight would be too soon.
Hopefully now the dust has settled on the other week's showing, that Murray can get out again soon before the Mitchell fight - and then stay out.
Money is always a problem in boxing, but perhaps Warren Promotions can hook up Gallagher & Murray over to LA and mix it up against different styles Stateside. I think it would bring him on.
Forget Guerro & Marquez - but Katsidis was made to look ordinary for large spells Saturday and I think perhaps the Mitchell win was flattering to him (as much as I love Kat).
Thoughts ?

Re: John Murray
i very much agree on the rust issue
Murray more than most strikes me as a momentum fighter, both within his fights and his career as a whole.
I think Katsidis would be about as far as he can go world-wise, though, IE at world level gatekeeper and no better.

Re: John Murray
Likewise I agree about the rust issue.
Every boxer has had an of night the way Murray did against Al Hamedi and the Spanird but he still won the fights. I personally don't think Murray is World Level. We don't even know if he's the best in Britain. Kevin Mitchell v Murray would answear a lot of questions. I reckon its a 50/50 fight and would find it hard to pick a winner.
As for Murray v Katsidis, Katsidis wins this. He did get out boxed in everyround bar the 8th the other night, but that was against a 2weight World Champ.
Murray v Mitchell next Please

I agree with what you say but John's defence or should i say lack of defence will let him down at world level,it dont matter how tough you are if your getting hit by world class fighters regularly your going to end up getting hurt and beat.big lennox wrote:Agree.Regular fights for this lad are needed. He has a lot of talent and is teak tough. Will wear a lot good fighters down.

Re: John Murray
Katsidis-Murray would be an absolute war! The thing with that is Katsidis can be outboxed but never outfought. His loses to Casamayor, Marquez, Guerrerro and even Diaz all outboxed him, I don't think Murray has the boxing skill to do that. I feel Katsidis would be stronger which Murray has never fought anyone as strong as him so it would be interesting to see how he reacts, I think Katsidis would wear him down and stop him late, Murray would land a lot of shots but I doubt he has the power to stop Katsidis coming forward, whereas Katsidis' power would certainly stop Murray's attack. Both would land massive shots but IMO Murray's wouldn't have the effect of Katsidis, so I think Katsidis would get a late stoppage in an absoloute cracker.
And 100% agree about the rust

Re: John Murray
I think when Murray gets a regular run of fights against guys with power that he respects, he tightens up his defense quite well. The Thaxton, Meager, Buckland fights for me had Murray taking most shots on his arms and gloves. Sure he doesn't show any real upper body movement, but does have a tight guard. It's the fights where he is a massive favourite after a long time out of the ring where he takes too many shots.billy nelson wrote:I agree with what you say but John's defence or should i say lack of defence will let him down at world level,it dont matter how tough you are if your getting hit by world class fighters regularly your going to end up getting hurt and beat.big lennox wrote:Agree.Regular fights for this lad are needed. He has a lot of talent and is teak tough. Will wear a lot good fighters down.
I'm still intrigued to see Murray at a higher level, hopefully he won't miss the boat

In a sense, I think Casamayor outfought him.alexpaterson wrote:Katsidis-Murray would be an absolute war! The thing with that is Katsidis can be outboxed but never outfought. I know what your saying, but Katsidis is wider with his shots and is even more lacking in defense, he has also shown he can be hurt (and not just at the higher level, see Graham Earl). Would love to see it and hate to pick a winner
