World Boxing Hall of Fame

Post by Ric »

Well, the Class of 2002 will be inducted October 19. Does BoxRec have the complete records for all inductees? If not, which ones?

That link didn't work for me, but I saw something about it on ringsports.com... this is what it said (for the editors, in case you guys can't get the link to work either)

"On October 19th, the World Boxing Hall of Fame will induct two-time heavyweight champion George Foreman of the U.S., flyweight champion Miguel Canto of Mexico, bantamweight and junior featherweight champion Lupe Pintor of Mexico and Mike McCallum of Jamaica, who won world titles in three weight classes. Those who will be inducted into the expanded category include longtime trainer Freddie Roach, writer/television analyst Larry Merchant and Bill Caplan, a publicist in the game the past 40 years. All three are from the U.S. Most of the World Boxing Hall of Fame Class of 2002 will be available for comment on Wednesday as well as by teleconference.

The World Boxing Hall of Fame will also announce that welterweight champion Vernon Forrest has been named its Fighter of the Year, and that his trainer, Ronnie Shields, has been selected Trainer of the Year."

By the way, I think Miguel Canto and Lupe Pintor are excellent selections, and foreman is a given...

I'm just waiting for the days when promoters are paying to get fighters into the hof's
