I have BT Vision but can only get Sky Sports 1 & Sky Sports 2. I would rather the Khan fight is on Primetime PPV than Sky Sports 3 because at least I have the option of watching it online now if I want to. If it was on SBO as originally planned I would not have been able to watch it either as it's not available through BT Vision.earsjohn wrote:Not quite.stujones wrote:You can get a "basic" sports package for around £10 a month - Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 only (no Sky Sports 3, 4 or News)..... the £40+ a month you pay is for Sky Sports 3, 4 and News..... and most people I know have only got the first two channels and this is the only option (I think) if you are on BT Vision.whiteboy wrote:Sky sports 3 is obscure? And what does he mean by 'you have to subscribe to sky sports to get sky sports 3....'!!! I would have thought you needed to subscribe to sky sports to get sky sports 1 as well
So you do need an extra Sky Sports Package to get SS3.
Basic Sky, ie without any additional Movies or Sports packages, is £19.50 per month through Sky (BT Vision and Virgin offer different package deals). You can add either SS1 or SS2 for £12.25 each per month or you can add both SS1 and SS2 for a total £20.25 per month. The latter option gives SS3, SS4 and SSN "free". So the additional cost of SS3 is £8 on top of only 1 of SS1 and SS2. There are no options to subscribe to only SS1 and SS2 so the people you know are either telling porkies or do not subscribe to Sky. I know no-one who subscribes to only one of SS1 or SS2.

AMIR KHAN has vowed the show will go on even though he could end up fighting for NOTHING at Manchester's MEN Arena on Saturday night.
The world light welterweight champion defends his WBA title against Irishman Paul McCloskey who will pocket MORE than Khan win or lose.
Khan's bout against his unbeaten opponent was originally scheduled as a pay per view fight on Sky TV earning him upwards of an estimated £1.5million.
But the satellite broadcaster ditched the fight as a PPV event following rows about the undercard and offered Khan a flat fee in the region of £150,000.
That was refused and Khan's camp have significantly annoyed bosses at Sky switching to Primetime TV in the hope of gaining maximum exposure.
But after expenses, including McCloskey's fight fee of around £150,000 and TV broadcast costs of over £100,000 are taken, Khan will almost certainly be out of pocket.
However, he insisted: "The fight is still on and not for one day did I think that it would be off.
"I've trained 100 per cent for this fight. It will definitely go ahead because you have two hungry fighters in myself and Paul who want to put on a show."
Khan reckons he has also been shielded from the behind the scenes rows and that he is totally focused on beating McCloskey.
He added: "My team kept me out of everything that's been going on and I have just concentrated on my training."

Re: Team Khan refuse sky sports for Primetime ppv
Let's do some sums, based on what people have told me. I'm told that Primetime has never done more than 20,000 buys for a boxing PPV. The split between them and Khan, it's been suggested to me, is probably 50-50. So let's say they do 20,000 buys - it may be more, it may be less, but we'll work on 20,000. At roughly 15 quid a pop, that's £300,000. Then there's the gate money on top of that. McCloskey is on what, £100,000? Surely that undercard can't cost more than about 50 grand at most. My figures may be way out, but they're based on conversations with very experienced people. So I think there's very little chance of Amir fighting for nothing and probably no way on earth he'll earn less than McCloskey. But this is all guesswork, albeit informed guesswork, I don't know the facts.
Re: Team Khan refuse sky sports for Primetime ppv
Do you know which fight did 20k Glyn?
The MEN has to cost a few quid to hire out, with security etc? Still, you'd think independent of TV they will take some money as even a conservative estimate would put the gate at somewhere around £1m.

Re: Team Khan refuse sky sports for Primetime ppv
Could there be an expenditure based on Sky losing the rights? Did Primetime have to buy anything from Sky (an agreement or something) or did Sky give the promoters any compensation?
I don't know, just wondering.

Re: Team Khan refuse sky sports for Primetime ppv
With those figures, it seems Khan would have been out of pocket taking Sky's offer and that is before his you account for his massive training costs being abroad for 8 weeks.
Wouldn't surprise me if Sky ordered Hatton and Matchroom not to help promote the show.
Total bullyboy tactics, but some on here just believe Khan is being greedy - incredible.

Sorry Scott, I don't - and remember, it's only hearsay and I don't know the facts, it's just presenting some figures which have been suggested to me are about right and doing a few sums based on them.
And Gobbles, I hear that Hatton's been told it's OK for his fighters to be on the card but that he isn't allowed to publicise or take part in the show in any way.

Since the Sky Sports deal collapsed or before that? After. I'm told there was a Hatton statement on the original Primetime press release but he later asked them to remove it — could be bollocks, but that's what I was toldstujones wrote:Since the Sky Sports deal collapsed or before that? Exactly, there is so much anti-khan crap on this forum it's disgusting. Also the same people who moan all the time about how bad Sky sports are when it comes to boxing and value for money are suddenly defending them like they've been hard done by when it's the Khan team that have been shafted and treated poorly, not least Sky announcing it wasn't going to be PPV anymore and on SS3 without proper consultation with Khan's team. The fact that SKY left it so late in the day mean's the fight had no chance of being on ITV which would have been a real possibility a month or so ago..oh btw on ITV it would have been FREE for everyone!gobbles wrote:With those figures, it seems Khan would have been out of pocket taking Sky's offer and that is before his you account for his massive training costs being abroad for 8 weeks.

Just to add Khan will be recieving around $650,000(£400,000) from HBO for the rights to show the fight although some of this may have to be shared with Primetime who are providing the feed for their American delayed broadcast before the Ortiz vs Berto fight.

Really? That's a big sum of money for a fight that won't hold a lot of interest for Americans and won't be on at US primetimeexittored wrote:Exactly, there is so much anti-khan crap on this forum it's disgusting. Well you have to remember that KHAN's 2 fights in America have done good ratings wise so he does have a certain amount of star power going for him there now.Scottrf wrote:I think they have it on delay. I did read an article that HBO offered him around $950,000 if the fight was live in America and around $650,000 if it was delayed although the opponent at the time was supposed to be Lamont Peterson.
I guess Team Khan chose Paul McCloskey purely for his following in Ireland and the potential value he could bring to the PPV, maybe in retrospect he wishes he'd chosen Peterson or Prescott.
Re: Team Khan refuse sky sports for Primetime ppv
It's pay-per-view here in N.Z and the programme starts about 7am (8pm GMT) what time is Khan due on does anybody know? Cheers.

Re: Team Khan refuse sky sports for Primetime ppv
I've not seen the ratings but they would have to be substantial for them to pay $650,000 for him fighting in a different time-zone against someone the Americans have never heard of. I don't think many Americans are that sold on Khan to be honest. I was in Vegas last year talking to a couple of locals about the sport and they didn't think he was big news. Just another hype job.exittored wrote:Well you have to remember that KHAN's 2 fights in America have done good ratings wise so he does have a certain amount of star power going for him there now.Scottrf wrote:I think they have it on delay. Trish Dixon in boxing news called the move madness!
Re: Team Khan refuse sky sports for Primetime ppv
I noted in the latest article up on Boxrec News (a press release, Ian?) that there is no mention of Hatton Promotion's involvement in the bill. Now it says Khan Promotions and GBP.
Also in that press release apparently Munroe last fought in the Uk in 2006?

Yes. That's not saying it's a great PPV show, but they should have stuck by their intitial decision. If they wanted to switch it to normal Sky, they should have made a better offer. Or maybe they should just have dropped the price from £15 to a fiver.
They moved the goalposts on the Khans and then tried to blame them. I think it was also nasty the way they dropped PPV, made that public before negotiating with them, and tried to back the Khans into a corner and force them to take a low ball off.
This also come back to Sky not investing any money in boxing. Considering how much they spend on rights for other sports, that's incredible.

Sky ordered the Hattons to take their branding off the show and to do nothing to promote it. Ricky was made to back out of a public appearance with McCloskey at an Irish centre in Manchester on Wednesday night.
Re: Team Khan refuse sky sports for Primetime ppv
And thats why Sky won't win the moral high ground for me on this one. Talk about a childish act. At the end of the day, unless there are options - McCloskey being a matchroom fighter, should be on Sky next time - so it does damage them somewhat.gobbles wrote:stujones wrote:I noted in the latest article up on Boxrec News (a press release, Ian?) that there is no mention of Hatton Promotion's involvement in the bill. I was aware that Sky have told Ricky to shut up about the bill, but I think its taking it to extreme asking them to eliminate their Hatton promotions branding. Are Hatton promotions involved at all still, or is it just they are not allowed to say they are.
All very childish.
