Rick, I saw a photo on the internet of you and Sugar Ray Robinson clowning about, it doesn't get any better then this working out in the same gym as the Sugarman, what do you remember about it Rick...

The Best of the Best . . .

Cholo, the photo was taken at the Main Street Gym during the summer of 1969, I was 17.
A few days earlier, I'd skipped to school to train downtown and walked into the gym before the afternoon crowd had arrived.
I stepped onto the gym floor and I saw the great Robinson banging a heavy bag.
I quickly put on my workout gear and without warming up went right to the bag hanging next to the one Sugar Ray was pounding.
I began working on the bag and between rounds we nodded at each other as we caught our breath.
As he finished the next round, he finished by almost folding the heavy bag in half with a ripping left hook.
When the bell rang, I asked him, "Is that the hook you flattened Fullmer with?"
Robinson laughed, "Your too young to remember that." I told him I'd seen it.
I also said, "I wish I could throw a hook like that."
The man rated by most as the best prizefighter in history took a few moments to watch me throw my hook and made a few suggestions.
One of the greatest moments in my life!

No, I never did see Roberto Bolanos fight. What turned Aragon into a villain was that one time in an interview he said he wasn't Mexican or Mexican-American, not a thing to say when 80% of the boxing fans were such, but he pack the joints every time he fought with about 60% of the fans wanting to see him get beat...

Frank, I have the book Boxing In The los Angeles Area, it's a excellent book.
What i'd like to see is a documentary, Art Aragon alone would be worth a documentary dvd. Thanks for putting some light on why Art was the villian of the fan's, there must be loads of film just gathering dust of the Golden Boy. Art should have had is own T.V. show..

No I don't. I don't see Enrique anymore. Ruby I see about once or twice a year, usually at some boxing function, like the California Boxing Hall Of Fame luncheons.

In the mid-'60's, Enrique helped me train Frankie and Tony when the boys were young kids.

She was at last year's CBHOF banquet when Enrique was inducted, wasn't she?

BTW, I've made the transition to Mac. Boy, what a difference! You guys gotta make the switch!

I think Bojado was a case of to much money to soon, from what i remember he got a huuuuge signing bonus . It seemed he lost all desire as soon as he picked up that pen I saw him fight a couple of times and he seemed totally devoid of ''hunger''

He hasent fought since 2007 where he fought 3 fights after a 3 year layoff so no wonder you dont hear about him much Cholo
