seeing as i said it when this match was first mentioned, i still think that Williams will knock out Skelton inside 3 rounds, the reasoning behind this is that Skelton when i've seen him caught suddenly gets a head on and wants to prove his toughness, this will be his downfall, once williams connects Skelton will try and trade and get knocked out. end of.

As mentioned above this attitude and machoism is one bred by K1 and other mixed discipline sports.

Boxing is different sometimes as you have to have that element of control and play to your strengths and your opponents weaknesses, which may mean not trying to find out whos the toughest SOB. There rae a few fights that spring to mind where one boxer gives the other a chance to knock him out by getting inside and trying to prove how tough he is.

Williams should be able to beat Skelton quite easily. The Tyson Williams fought was not the same as the one who fought McBride. He wasn't the old Tyson either but that 1st round was the best I saw Tyson in years. I saw Williams fight on the undercard of the Hatton fight and he looked busy and skilled. He was against very poor opposition but I feel if Williams is any way up for this fight he should beat Skelton comfortably.

Thinking back to Williams v Long, if Williams performs like that, Skelton will win it on pure aggression.

Danny has a good jab when he uses it, and this should be enough to keep the bedford brawler off him, but Danny has a habit of standing and posing trying to counter, which isn't really his forte.

Skelton will be on him like white on rice, whaling away smothering him if Danny does that, Danny needs to let his hands go.

What fight were you watching? Williams looked lethargic, one paced and had absolutely no punch accuracy at all against a guy who was there to be hit.

I think it was a shocking performance.

Look for Williams to implode in this fight in a possible career-ending defeat – just a funny feeling I have – pretty much like he did against Sam. I think the shellacking he took against Klitschko will be a very hard thing to come back from and hey, whether it's part of the job or not, who in their right mind would want to go back to such a dark place again.

Only way I can see Williams winning is early, by detonating a big bomb on the relatively untested chin of Skelton - remember, he was hurt against Big Bob Mavrovic... but then again, so was Danny.

Real intriguing crossroads fight isn't it?

Yup, Danny has a good jab, but a fighter who's prepared for it can use it to his advantage, becaus if Danny's so heavy these days, he hasn't the speed of foot to compliment it. Remember against Sam, he was slow afoot and tried to double jab Sam, who just shot over right hand after right hand.

I like Skelton and have alot of respect for him, but i just think that Williams has to much for him, anyone know the odds on the fight?

It isn't going to take an expert to work out Skeltons fight plan, as he only knows one way to fight, If i was in Williams corner i'd want him to start fast, warm up properly before the fight, look to get the uppercut working as Skelton comes in. its not going to be pretty to watch but exciting.

Anyone going?

Betfair has:

Danny Williams 2.28 (Approx 5/4)
Matt Skelton 1.7 (Approx 8/11)
Draw 21 (Approx 20/1)

I can see why people envisage Skelton roughing up Williams and stopping him. But you have to remember just how awful the punches are that Skelton throws, especially when he starts to get ragged which isn't that far into a fight.

Williams might not get Skelton out of there early, it might turn into a horrible wrestling match, but either way I don't see Danny being in too much physical danger here. The style of Skelton really is waiting to be exposed big time.

I can see what your saying, but Danny is a much different fighter physically to the one who fought Long. Long managed to walk through alot of Danny's shots that night, Skelton being a huge man would have been able to do so also.

However, I think the tactics and preperation (i.e weight etc) that Danny had vs Long would be ideal for smaller guys like Ruiz and Byrd. I'm not sure those two would have coped with Danny's work rate and I'm not sure they are as physically intimidating or as tough as Long.

Skelton is though, that why I wouldn't mind seeing Danny heavier than I normally like him.

Coming in heavy will suit the plodding Skelton though, Danny isn't going to get any stronger by piling on 20 lbs in weight if it's flab, he is big and heavy enough coming in at 245 and will be quicker and stronger. If he comes in around 260 against Skelton he'll be immobile and rooted to the spot again.

Are you shitting me about Long, he's not physically intimidating, at least not compared to proper heavyweights. He's tiny and has very little technique or punch power. Ruiz is a lot more bother than Long.

Long would be beaten up by any world class heavyweight.

Long was effectively a punch bag vs Williams though. He's a tough nut who takes one hell of a good shot and keeps coming.

I thought my post would have got misread that I was calling Long a world class heavyweight, all I am saying he is teak tough, can take one great shot and doesn't budge.

I don't think you would see Long standing back and allowing middleweight dictate the fight and generally get intimidated and almost lose the "man" battle - like Ruiz did. No, I am not saying Long would beat Toney and Jones cause they would run rings round him.

no, but i don't see long landing enough punches to beat Ruiz, better heavyweights have tried and failed. long is tough, but that's about all he brings to the table, he has very little power and poor technique.

I really dont see how people think Williams is a class above Skelton. Better technique yes, but they both have strengths in different areas. The fact is both are British title level fighters, Williams proved he cant go beyond that when he was shallacked by Sam and embarassed by Klitschko. So lets not pretend its a world class fighter facing Skelton here. I've been hearing how great Williams is for years and other than Tyson he has never delivered. Yes he beat old Tyson and thats a good win but that proves very little these days. Kevin McBride has just done it FFS!!
