you arnt allowed to chant or shout at a boxing match for fear of being labelled a ignorant chav.

you can do one as far as im concerned

i love having a good old shout, i do that same at rugby, cricket even.

its part of loving a sport getting involved, passionate you know. for me anyway. I cant sit there and politely clap like some independent arbiter.

I got kicked out by the referee when watch my local 1st XV play in a Welsh cup match at home. For swearing and being too loud.

Oh I was 6 at the time.

Just to clarify if needs be to J or anyone else reading this thread, my earlier comment about the "Why doesn't he just hit 'im?" brigade was a reference to those who are easily frustrated because they don't understand that boxing isn't just about 2 blokes punching eachother in the head. It was in no way connected to the fans shouting "Just hit'im!" either in the hall or at home in front of the tv. I fully endorse this behaviour!! 8) 8)

Now I fail to find the connection between about the "Why doesn't he just him 'em" bigrade and the commentary style those fight fans are used to seeing.

Judging by the crowd reaction in some of the US fights televised here it is the US fight fans who boo after 30 seconds of no action, at least we take a few rounds.

i did think it was weird. I do agree to an extent, you have no doubt read my thoughts on boo-ing national anthems even fighters, thats a different matter but to have a good old shout when watching sport, well its what it is all about once you have packed up playing yourself.

funnily enough the two sports i still play to any decent level football and squash i wouldnt go to the bottom of the garden to watch

Good point Stu, maybe there's just no getting through to the yanks. I'm amazed at the booing you hear state side so regularly, for me you'd have to know virtually nothing about the fighters in the ring to be so quick to disrespect them.

Remember that Rafael Marquez fight in Vegas against Heriberto Ruiz? On the Morales-Hernandez undercard, I think.

Cagey first two rounds, feeling each other out, some whipping counters landed, and nice technical skills from both guys, and the crowd are howling in boredom.

Then Marquez counters a body shot with a right uppercut... Ruiz goes down face-first. Utter silence reigns...

Rafa Marquez will be publishing his book "How to shut a load of wankers up with one punch", in August.
