It always strikes me that the British mentality is far more "to moan about the British mentality of moaning about things" than it is "to moan about things".

I, myself, prefer to moan about people who moan about people moaning about things. And so forth, proceed ad infinitum etc.

I do like Australias way of ferociously criticising losers, like over here you heard people saying how brave Paula Radcliffe was in Athens, in Australia they'd fornicating hammer you until you won then they'd love you.

I love that mentality you know, 1st is everything, 2nd is nothing so you may as well have come last.

It's why we don't achieve as much as we can because we always have that "well it's the taking part that counts" attitude, nah winning is what counts.

Your right most pudenda do it, not every pudendum does it but most pudenda do it the world over, however no end of surveys have shown that british pudenda are the worst pudenda for it :TU:

I agree. Some of the planks on here expect him to undergo some kind of transformation.

I think it's jealousy, Hatton has done what most of us can only dream of.

:TU:

He should take up kite surfing or paragliding if he wants an adrenaline buzz. I think he just wants people to cheer for him and blow smoke up his arse. A shame really. He is loaded and should just get on with his life.

I think the recent Hatton Promotions ad with him in place of prominence says a lot about him.

To be fair if it weren't for Ricky Hatton there wouldn't be a 'Hatton Promotions'; there are plenty of amateur psychologists on this site. Whatever Hatton wants to do is up to him; he boxed and entertained and has plenty of money. He weren't the best and he ought to have fought Witter; (IMO). Ricky Hatton will be different as a person than as a media creation/projection; some people will be happy with that and others won't.

I have to salute you, sir, because that's the only time I have seen a reference to "A Father's Legacy To His Daughters" on a boxing messageboard.

Shit-hot mate.

PS: Unless of course you didn't mean the 18th Century fuckwit-moralist & instead meant the footballer.

I've been there* and it's no picnic. Anyone doubting whether it's a real illness would get a harsh kick up the arse if they were ever unfortunate enough to get it (and don't think it couldn't happen, I never thought it could happen to me but it did). Anyone facing it has my utmost sympathy and best wishes and I wish Ricky all the best.

*to clarify I'm talking about depression here, not losing to 2 all-time greats in Las Vegas... :TU:

coghaugen11 wrote:Depression is impossible to understand unless you've experienced it.

Serotonin stops being developed in the brain, a chemical that produces happiness and optimistic/positive thought processes. So you're whole situation and existance seems horrificially worse than it is, in your head, and it feels and is very real.

Thinking is an effort, speaking is a struggle, moving is tough, focus is near non-existant, adrenalin stops being produced, etc. It's basically like being a cripple, and why would you want to live like that?

Those diagnosed with depression are done so because they were strongly considering (even planning) ending their lives out of psychological torment, and so are prescribed medication to help produce serotonin in the brain.

Agreed totally.... and it's difficuly because no one takes it that seriously; 'it's in your head' 'it's not that bad' 'look at all the starving people'..... etc

Depression is a grotesque illness because it has no obvious signs and because there is no obvious cure..... It's exceedingly lonesome.

With regards to Hatton; I don't realise why everyone is so hard on him. He's a very friendly down-to-earth guy; not perfect, but very likeable. And he lifted boxing in the spotlight so was very good for the sport.

I wish him the best
