I don't know how many of you seen this fight but am I the only one who thought that Oakey was robbed. I have seen some dodgy decisions in my time but if Haymer won that fight I must have been looking the other way.
I also couldn't believe that he didn't have a point deducted for holding.
He's a very lucky man.
By the way I was there to cheer Haymer on !!
Haymer v Oakey
It's hard for me to fathom why Oakey took that fight and even went after the English title. For someone who desperately needed a victory to get his career back on track, he would've been better off going after a WBU or WBF type of title since at least 3 judges would be scoring that. I guess I can see why guys would want to go after the British title (although, it seems way to easy to get robbed there -- Vanzie was robbed twice against Earl and Vincent was jobbed against Barnes), but these lesser titles such as the English or Celtic make no sense to me for a decent fighter. If you're going to pursue a second-rate belt, at least get one that's going to be judged by three judges.

From September the 1st all British and Comonwealth title fights will have 3 judges and a none scoring referee. Though I'm not sure this will put a stop to contraversial decisions. All other bouts in Britain from 4x3s to Area,British Masters, English and Celtic titles will still be down to a scoring ref.somerstown wrote:Am I right in thinking that from september all British title fights will be scored by 3 judges ??
I hope so !!
