Shouldn't be surprised, Jim has always, always been a top boxing commentator, going back to the 1980's when ITV used to show a lot of boxing.

He could sense when a fighter was hurt, tired etc....he just has good instincts.

Sorely missed and very much underrated. He blows all these others out of the water, with only Jim Watt coming close.

Def sky should take him on instead of the likes of nelson, mccrory, watt, Moore etc
The guy is a trained proffesional presenter , you wouldn't put him in the ring to box so why vice versa?

I always liked him when he did the Big Fight Live on ITV he always very incisive and to the point with his questions and everythign knows his stuff whether it be football (which he has missed alot on ITV because they have Adrian Chiles now) Formula 1 he was good on (until ITV brought Steve Rider in from the BBC) and Boxing until ITV gave up on the boxing too.

Jim is the King. He goes back to World of Sport, and that doesn't make him old, it makes him a true master of his art.

Anyone remember Adrian Chiles doing DLH vs Vargas on the Beeb!!!!! Spent most of the time slagging of Larry Merchant, which says it all.... those who slag of LM obviously do not watch alot of boxing.

LM is a boxing institution, what is he - in his 80's. Off course he isn't what he was, but I am sure Banjo you have a respect for him based on him in his day. For a man of his age he still does really well, many people of his age cannot even remember their own name.

Adrian Chiles was slagging him off and US boxing commentary teams and clearly showed a clear lack of knowledge and respect for his work - and whats more was asking Richie Woodhall is opinion on LM - but in a closed question way "Aren't US boxing journalists crap, Richie?" - Woodhall ever the proffesional just didn't know what to say.

It wasn't even constructive - I remember hearing Ian Darke slagging off LM in a "off air" incident after DLH vs Sturm - whilst Larry was interviewing DLH - "For God's sake, ask him if he thought he won the fight" - at least that was constructive and it was a good point cause DLH's body language was quite revealing and Larry missed the boat there. Chiles slagged him off without even saying what he did so wrong - "Aren't they rubbish".

To be honest I expect nothing less from Chiles, the man is a moron and I'm still staggered as to why ITV wanted him.

As for LM yeah I have the upmost respect for him, he's been covering boxing for several decades and has been a fan for even longer and generally gives an unbiased opinion, he also asks the questions that need to be answered.

Peanuts compared to Chiles' current salary - Chiles aint done bad since Working Lunch, although I cannot understand why he is so respected.

Rosenthal is a superb commentator and a thoroughly decent bloke. The day Jim starts making racist remarks about Pakistanis is the same day we'll see Rolf Harris sodomising kittens on daytime tv.

Jim was excellent — relaxed, confident and knowledgeable. All the things that I believe are lacking from Dave Darts's arsenal on Sky. We're talking levels, but I don't think anyone at Sky could step up to Jim's. No strained deliveries, no faux gravitas, no trite cliches, just sheer class. I hope we see more of him. I didn't realise how much I missed him and I certainly didn't appreciate the sheer quality of the man until last night. Absence made the heart grow fonder.

Someone else I think deserves credit was Andy Kerr. I'm not his biggest fan as a rule, but that guy worked his arse off last night and delivered every time. How many ringside interviews did he do? Must have been pushing 10. The exemplary shift he put in made a mockery of the Sky team's bleating about how hard they work. Kerr single handedly did what Sky would have used three presenters for. Well done Andy.

Was strangely impressed by Ricardo as a commentator, too. Again, not a fan generally speaking, having heard plenty of him on overseas feeds. But I thought he did really well with Duke last night — and Duke warmed up as the evening went on. It may have been a 'change is as good as a rest' thing re Ricardo, because I always seem to know what the Sky team will say before they say it. I find them very predictable, whereas Ricardo, being American, brought a different and enjoyable angle to it.

All in all, very very well done to all at Primetime. They put that together at virtually the last moment, had never handled their own outside broadcast before, and came through with flying colours as far as I'm concerned. It was a little rough around the edges at times, but that was exactly the sort of busy, fast moving boxing show that I believe does the sport massive favours. Compared to a Sky show, it was a crystal meth vs valium broadcast — and no bloody adverts between rounds, the ultimate insult to any PPV buyer.

Good work Primetime, I hope you go from strength to strength and that last night's show is the start of something big.

I enjoyed it also Glyn, still would prefer to have Jim Watt involved - and it showed that Less is more is the best policy. I liked Ricardo also, never a fan of his - but I thought he was really good, perhaps its because I never thought in a million years I thought he would be calling a Lee Purdy fight. He brought the best out of Duke, but still give me Jim Watt or Barry McGuigan.

I thought Rob Reid was really good as an analyser, I normally like Steve Collins but he was talking rubbish most of the time last night - bias as anything.

It sounded like Rob Reid is going to continue with his boxing career, I wish him well. Prizefighter was never the right format to question how much he has left, as Terry Dunstan is proving.

I personally felt Duke was a dud and his moaning and negativity stole from the excitement he gave neither man any props, just nit picked the whole time.

I really wished his delivery was on a separate audio channel so i could have muted it. It gave Watt's commentary on Froch vs Magee a run for it's money, it was terrible in my book.

McCkenzie is a proper party pooper.

That said, Rosenthal was like velvet as usual and didn't try to colour the proceedings in any way, he was almost opaque throughout which in my opinion, allows the viewer to just take it all in without a sales pitch.

With Robin Reid in the studio, anyone who thinks Rosenthal made a racist comment must be stupid.

Thought Steve Collins was awful. RR was ok.
