Khan PPV Does 50,000 buys. Success or not?
Khan PPV Does 50,000 buys. Success or not?
So, was this worth it financially? Is this deemed a success these days? Better than 500k free viewers?

Where did you get that figure from?carlbcfc wrote:So, was this worth it financially? Is this deemed a success these days? Better than 500k free viewers?
It's alot more buys than any other primetime show has done. Never done > 20000 previously as far as I'm aware, so I'd deem it to be a success
50000 * 15 = £750,000

Again, assuming that number of PPVs is correct, the Khans wouldnt get the full £15. Would they get even half of the £15?Chambers2 wrote:Where did you get that figure from?carlbcfc wrote:So, was this worth it financially? Is this deemed a success these days? Better than 500k free viewers?

Google "Khan 50000 buys"
Maybe not the correct figure, but oh well, lets discuss...

Well the 50K PPV is the figure without the Virgin subscribers so that could make it around 60k PPV's sold but lets compromise and say the final total comes in around 55k sold.carlbcfc wrote:So, was this worth it financially? Is this deemed a success these days? Better than 500k free viewers?
We know that Khan was on a 50% cut of sales so thats 55,000 x £15= £825000 and 50% of that is £412,500 which is a hell of a lot more then the reported £150,000 SKY were offering.
Also of the 55,000 PPV's sold you'd have to say up to 3 or 4 people would be watching each PPV sold so that's up to 200,000 plus people watching the fight, not that many less then would have watched it on SS3.
Another thing is that it's now given Khan an option incase Sky don't want to make the Bradley fight PPV, with more time for Primetime to advertise that fight i'm sure they could get 100,000 ppv's.
So yeah i think you have to say it was a SUCCESS considering Primetime had barely a week to advertise and sell the PPV and certainly not the disaster that some on here had predicted.

On the flip side, would Primetime say; "This was a massive gamble with a week to go and as a result it totally bombed and we done our bollocks?" no?

Exactly, I would take these figures with a pinch of salt, a large pinch of salt.boxingchat wrote:On the flip side, would Primetime say; "This was a massive gamble with a week to go and as a result it totally bombed and we done our bollocks?" no?
Re: Khan PPV Does 50,000 buys. Success or not?
Not a chance that it did 50000 buys, if it was half that id be surprised
Re: Khan PPV Does 50,000 buys. Success or not?
Primetime have already confirmed that it's their highest selling PPV beating any Froch fight they've shown and various boxing websites have reported Primetime telling them it did at least 50,000 PPV buys.Camcas wrote:Not a chance that it did 50000 buys, if it was half that id be surprised
Let me tell you how it works, Primetime is a limited company and probably has share holders and a stock market value, if in any way they release information or fail to correct any information that would increase their stock market value they would be liable for a big fine or even possible fraud charges.

But have Primetime actually confirmed it did 50,000 or just said it was there highest, if it did that many im truely shockedexittored wrote:Primetime have already confirmed that it's their highest selling PPV beating any Froch fight they've shown and various boxing websites have reported Primetime telling them it did at least 50,000 PPV buys.Camcas wrote:Not a chance that it did 50000 buys, if it was half that id be surprised

and according to Khan's twitter account that's what Primetime have told him although that's hardly an unbiased source.UK pay-per-view channel Primetime has revealed that Amir Khan’s title defence against Paul McCloskey on Saturday has done over 50,000 PPV buys.

It doesn't work like that at all. A limited company isn't quoted on the stock exchange. It doesn't have a stock market value, and the only ones privy to the actual figures would be the directors/accountants. They have to post profit and loss, but the directors are under no obligation to reveal actual PPV figures to anyone other than their accountants and shareholders (which are limited to fifty, if it is a limited company).exittored wrote:Let me tell you how it works, Primetime is a limited company and probably has share holders and a stock market value, if in any way they release information or fail to correct any information that would increase their stock market value they would be liable for a big fine or even possible fraud charges.Camcas wrote:Not a chance that it did 50000 buys, if it was half that id be surprised

Yeah your right and most companies will start out as Limited companies with limited liability, started like that myself but i'm presuming a company like primetime which has been going for a few years may have gone public and floated shares in order to expand.Dan Dares wrote:It doesn't work like that at all. You can be a plc without floating on the stock exchange - you just need more than 50 shareholders.exittored wrote:Yeah your right and most companies will start out as Limited companies with limited liability, started like that myself but i'm presuming a company like primetime which has been going for a few years may have gone public and floated shares in order to expand.Dan Dares wrote:It doesn't work like that at all. Primetime is a private limited company (ltd) instead of a public limited company (plc) unless they transitioned from one to t'other after registering with companies house.

Actually heard it was closer to 65k buys so very good business in the circumstances.

Yep if the figures are true then it fully justifies the decision to tell Sky to screw off.boxingchat wrote:Actually heard it was closer to 65k buys so very good business in the circumstances.

All about money at the end of the day. Fair play to Khan I suppose. It is him in the line of fire after all.

Sad innit? Talking about PPV buys rather than ACTUAL boxing?! And they wonder why people are turning off in their droves to watch KFC.......
Re: Khan PPV Does 50,000 buys. Success or not?
When khan supposedly sold only 35,000 ppvs on sky one time it was touted as a disaster so why are primetime so pleased with 50k buys.
Khan was supposed to get a 1.5 million purse so its massively short of what was expected.
