If Hamburg tickets are too high - Bremen is a good bet

Cheers, just looking as i come from Isle of Wight, and was hoping that Southampton airport would do flights to Hamburg, but they don't :(
the do Frankfurt, Hannover and Dusseldorf, so i think Hannover might be the best option there.
Its just that i can't get the Friday off work , so don't really want to be travelling late on Friday up to Gatwick or Heathrow.

cheers mate, it all depends on what Olympic tickets i get, put in for a quite a few , if they come up will have to miss the Haye fight.

German trains are fantastic. Quick and reliable. It's 90 minutes from Hannover, although you need train from airport to main station first.MachoMan09 wrote:Hannover or Duss will do the trick, mate. I'm flying into Bremen with Ryanair on the Thursday and home Sunday night for 50 quid return including all the admin fees and shit. Having 1 night in Bremen then catching a train 38 euros return to hamburg on the Friday til Sunday. Marriott in hamburg doing a decent deal for a room for 4 works out 35 each per night. Can't wait.

i lived in germany for 6 years whilst in the army, bremen, hamburg, hannover and hamburg lubeck airports are the best bet. if you travel by ferry then ostend to hamburg is about a 6 hour trip on a good day, add on nearly 2 hours for calais.

Stanstead
Re: Routes to Hamburg
I'm flying over Saturday afternoon from Stansted to Bremen, and getting the train up from Bremen (55 min train). Cuts it a bit tight, but there you go.
Staying over Sat night in a nice hotel near arena that cost £40.
Sunday I'll go up to Hamburg racecourse for the superb German Derby meeting, then back off to Bremen for the 21:40 flight back.

Re: Routes to Hamburg
Not sure if this is any help but i was in bremen not long ago, if your getting the train from bremen to hamburg the cheapest way (especially if your in groups) is to buy whats called a landar ticket, its basically a regional ticket and altho bremen and hamburg are in slightly different regions the Bremen, Niedersachsen-Ticket (Lower-Saxony-Ticket) is valid for travel to hamburg and viser versa, its a one day ticket that costs 28 euro(from machine) or 30 euro(from kiosk) for up to five people (so around 6 euros each) and is valid in second class on local trains only,
local trains get to hamburg from bremen in under 1 hr 20.

The main race, contested by a number of English raiders, goes off at 16:30. Though it's a eight race card, with the gates opening to the 50,000 fans at 11:30llamalew wrote:German derby sounds good, what time does that kick off at

Do a road trip. 4 of us drove to Dortmund for the world cup back in 2006 and it was amazing. Lots of places to see on the way if you have time, if not, you can do it in a reasonable amount of time
