Prescott Would Take Khan Again (REVISITED)

Post by keithmoonhangover »

I've just Bradis Prescott's last fight against a limited opponent and I'm more convinced than ever that he would knock Khan out again in a rematch. Any thoughts folks?

I've got to disagree with you here, I feel Khan under Roach now knows what to do when he gets hurt, move before he would fire back but now he's smarter. His defence is better and his offensive is tighter under Roach, whereas Prescott has been shown to be crude, very bad defencively. I think Khan would keep a tight guard work everything off the jab and bring in his combinations. Khan late stoppage after completly outclassing Prescott imo

No how did he look? Against Mitchell and the fight he won by DQ he looked very novicey with wild swings and poor defence.

Why are you now convinced more than ever that Prescott would beat Khan again? As you said, he beat a limited guy last night, and that hardly proves anything to me.

Yeah, I'd be interested to know what he saw that convinced him more than ever.

What I saw was the perfect style to beat Khan. Prescott has matured and if you have any douibts, watch how he blasted him out last tine. Styles make fights and Prescott has proven he has the style once.

He caught Khan cold about 30 seconds into the fight. I don't think that proves that he has "the style".

I also don't really see how Prescott's performance last night shows how he has matured. As you said, his opponent was very limited. If he had dominated a top opponent in the same way, I could see your point.

OK, so basically it had nothing to do with what you saw last night Thanks for clearing that up.

He showed a superb jab, good movement and a solid defence.

You say he caiught Khan cold, well look at this way, NO ONE ELSE HAS. I'm not saying Precott is the best in the world, I'm just saying he would beat Khan. Styles make fights.

No, why were you impressed?
I saw a superb fighter. As I said, great jab, good movemnt and solid defence. Tne guy hits like a ton of bricks when he connects cleanly, which he would do at some point in twelve rounds.

Again, he showed those things against a very limited opponent. There is a reason why he didn't look nearly as good against Mitchell and Vasquez--they are better than mediocre.

Also, I strongly disagree that Prescott hits like a ton of bricks. He has scored 2 stoppages in his last 8 fights. Notice that all of his KO wins, with the exception of Khan, have been against nobodies.

That's true but it can be misleading too if you ignore all the other factors as you appear to be doing.

I think there is a big gulf in class between them now.

If they fought right now (probably impossible as Prescott can't possibly have any ranking based on his record since the Khan fight), I think Khan outclasses him, easily.

Sure, if Khan stood in front of him with his hands down and his chin out, then he'd be in trouble. Just can't see that happening.

I'm not ignoring the facts mate. I just think Prescott would get to him and hurt him. He showed a hell of a jab in that fight. Khan has improved and of course I agree, but he can still be hit and Prescott has a good chin, so he cathes him.

A perfect example of where a heavy handed guy caught and finished a much better fighter very early on but then got completely outclassed in the rematch when he couldn't land his sunday punch:

S T Gordon vs Carlos De Leon

Ah, you wanted me to list them all did you.

No need to is there?

The fact it happens, albeit not often, just sank that line of questioning, Keith.

It is rare for a fighter to get stopped in the first round of a bout that was not an obvious mismatch ahead of time, so there are few examples to work with (although Collins has listed some of them for you). In cases where this does occur rematches don't often happen, which narrows things down even more. There have been, however, plenty of cases where a fighter has dominated a rematch after being caught and stopped in a preceding bout (think of Lennox Lewis's defeats).

I don't think Prescott’s knockout victory suggests that his style is anathema to Khan, as it is very difficult for a fighter to impose his style in such a short period. I simply believe that this was an anomalistic result; an instance of a guy getting caught on a bad night. Since losing to Prescott, Khan has been nearly impossible to hit, and even when he was taking punishment from the big punching Maidana, Khan didn't crumble. Conversely, Prescott has been clearly out boxed twice, and he failed to impress or show laudable power in his winning efforts.

I am confident that if Khan-Prescott II materialized any time soon, it could be used as an answer to the riddle you are posing. An improved Khan would dominate Prescott and win nearly every round.

Khan would rather take on the division's top fighters.
