He said he will dedicate this fight to Bennie!
I am sure SB is taking the piss J - we all know this is yet another BS marking time match.J wrote:do stop it with this one eyed fanboy bullshit.
we arent mugs.
Given that this is the internet and we can't see or hear you, it would help to add in a smiley of some sort if you are being sarcastic.slapbangwhallop wrote:Maybe they should have a smiley with a tongue being firmly stuck in little smileymans cheek.
At least it drew out a couple of reactionary clowns, but no Bennie.

p.s. Bunema isnt a bad as you think either, even at the weight.
HBO dont want him again until August - Vera rematch.TerribleTerry wrote:I am sure SB is taking the piss J - we all know this is yet another BS marking time match.J wrote:do stop it with this one eyed fanboy bullshit.

As has been said many times before, however, this type of matchmaking shows us how little faith Lee's people have in his abilities, unfortunately.
one would have thought that given the stick Lee gets on here and that his last fight was against unbeaten Craig McEwan that this obviously isnt as step up. Therein lay the sacrcasm, or so I thought.crusader wrote:Given that this is the internet and we can't see or hear you, it would help to add in a smiley of some sort if you are being sarcastic.slapbangwhallop wrote:Maybe they should have a smiley with a tongue being firmly stuck in little smileymans cheek.

At this stage in his career Bunema is definitely a poor opponent for a middleweight contender. He couldn't even beat Willie Lee two years ago, so I don't see how he will be able to remotely trouble the far superior Lee.
He does it for LOVE - but the Don King spelling of course.crusader wrote:I just don't see why Lee needs to be fighting such poor opposition in these "stay busy" fights. Guys like Thiam, Lowry, Cook and now Bunema are terrible opponents for a world ranked contender. Cook hadn't won a fight in two years and had never defeated anyone decent; Lowry hadn't won a fight in five years and had been KO'd four times in a row; and Thiam was 38 and beyond shot. As far as his next bout goes, Lee could at least fight a regular middleweight who has fought and won some time in the last year and eight months. I don't see why that is too much to ask, and he would be criticized less for it.
Lee doesn't choose the level of opponent for his 'stay busy' fights; his handlers do.slapbangwhallop wrote:He does it for LOVE - but the Don King spelling of course.crusader wrote:I just don't see why Lee needs to be fighting such poor opposition in these "stay busy" fights. You are right, a fight against these types of opponents won't ready him for the middleweight elite, but it will get him ready for Bryan Vera.TerribleTerry wrote:Lee doesn't choose the level of opponent for his 'stay busy' fights; his handlers do.slapbangwhallop wrote:He does it for LOVE - but the Don King spelling of course.crusader wrote:I just don't see why Lee needs to be fighting such poor opposition in these "stay busy" fights. As Crusader states these types of opponents won't ready him for the middleweight elite: it is a worry for me that his management have deemed it necessary that he is handled with kid gloves - its only a matter of time before we see another Vera style upset, I fear..
Amazingly, I actually agree with you on most of this, simply based on the fact that is the wake of the McEwan showing, everyone seems to have re-calibrated their expectations of Lee. The only bit I'd differ on is that I don't think a fight against Vera will get him ready for the middleweight elite.slapbangwhallop wrote:You are right, a fight against these types of opponents won't ready him for the middleweight elite, but it will get him ready for Bryan Vera.TerribleTerry wrote:Lee doesn't choose the level of opponent for his 'stay busy' fights; his handlers do.slapbangwhallop wrote: He does it for LOVE - but the Don King spelling of course.

And a fight against Bryan Vera will get him ready for the middleweight elite.
I am not saying that Lee will go all the way, anyone that watched the McEwan fight would have serious reservations about him even getting past Vera again but I dont see any issue with getting a couple of fights like these in before he fights Vera in August on HBO.
After a performance like that against McEwan there will be plenty of offers from those looking to reclaim his scalp.
I think that Vera's recent wins over Demers and Mora have firmed up Vera's credentials as the gatekeeper in the world title level at the division.Deserter wrote:Amazingly, I actually agree with you on most of this, simply based on the fact that is the wake of the McEwan showing, everyone seems to have re-calibrated their expectations of Lee. No disrespect Len but a fight with Bryan Vera will not get him ready for "the elite" at any weight mateslapbangwhallop wrote:You are right, a fight against these types of opponents won't ready him for the middleweight elite, but it will get him ready for Bryan Vera.TerribleTerry wrote:Lee doesn't choose the level of opponent for his 'stay busy' fights; his handlers do.slapbangwhallop wrote: He does it for LOVE - but the Don King spelling of course.

Hooky, do you not find it refreshing that a fighter is seeking to avenge his only defeat for which he has been criticised and taunted about for nearly two years? Fair enough, Vera isn't world level but Leonard is probably right - Lee is probably waiting for the winner of Sturm vs Macklin, preferably Macklin.Captain Hook wrote:

But he's not arguing that point, he's taking issue with the claim that a fight with Vera will get him ready for the elite. A point which surely no-one can dispute?Deno1986 wrote:Hooky, do you not find it refreshing that a fighter is seeking to avenge his only defeat for which he has been criticised and taunted about for nearly two years? It's hardly Lewis v Rahman though is it Deno? It's a half-decent middleweight against a half-decent middleweight. Nothing more, nothing less.Deno1986 wrote:Hooky, do you not find it refreshing that a fighter is seeking to avenge his only defeat for which he has been criticised and taunted about for nearly two years?
