Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
It is, although I did find some of it confusing and not sure what he is insinuating - when he talks about Mick merely being a representative.
I do find it sad, on the more enduring Froch interviews was after the Dirrel fight when Froch was declaring how him and Mick would be celebrating with a bottle of champaign in his new hot tub. Its a shame its soured and its shame that Froch seems to just completely dismiss the work Mick has done like that.
Frank and Ricky had a horrible split - but even in the most difficult period - Ricky would still always thank Frank for the work he did.
I think that interview just sums up why Froch doesn't endear to the wider public.

Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
I know Froch was extremely pissed off that he had to travel to Helsinki for the Abraham fight, when home advantage had previously been promised to him (especially when you have Andre Ward, who hasn't set foot outside California in the Super 6). Maybe he blames Hennessy, and it was the last straw.
Still, no matter who started the legal proceedings Froch seems to be saying an awful lot about it. Usually you have to shut your mouth altogether if a case is ongoing.

Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
I like Froch's style as a fighter but he is coming across to me as a person who will blame anyone but himself
Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
whats he got to blame himself for? is a fighters job to fight and froch has done a pretty good job of it so far!
Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
or should he get himself tv coverage too?
Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
Khan and Haye are self promoted, they make more money and can negotiate better deals. Froch probably looking to do the same.

Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
He probably is looking to do that. But he needs to be careful. For every Khan, Haye and Hatton, there's an Audley Harrison. Why take the risk? He might well do better to sign with someone like Matchroom, Hatton or Golden Boy.baulks wrote:Khan and Haye are self promoted, they make more money and can negotiate better deals. Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
Hennessy has nothing to complain about, he had Froch his whole pro career yet he could not deliver on the tv front. His job is to promote Froch, get him maximum exposure and help him to earn as much dosh as possible. He performed poorly on all fronts. After the run of fights Frochs been on he should be a household name, fighting on PPV, and earning mega money every time he laces up the gloves.
I'm no great fan of Warren, but respect where its due, its easy to imagine what he could have done with Froch.

20 defences, tucked away on subscription TV with no career defining fights and still pretty anonymous?ALI wrote:I'm no great fan of Warren, but respect where its due, its easy to imagine what he could have done with Froch.

Yes but probably , a lot more money in the bank , and no wars behind him ready to carry on and beat Joes record.orbtastic wrote:20 defences, tucked away on subscription TV with no career defining fights and still pretty anonymous?ALI wrote:I'm no great fan of Warren, but respect where its due, its easy to imagine what he could have done with Froch.
Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
Froch deserves respect for the way he has had to go about his business. His CV, after 28 fights, just wouldn't look the same if allegedly had been in charge.
Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
Of course, i agree, Warren would never have allowed him the run of fights he's had, but he would have gotten him much more exposure and built him into a far bigger star than he is now. It would be hard to argue otherwise, like it or not.Dan Dares wrote:Froch deserves respect for the way he has had to go about his business. Like Naz, Hatton, Calzaghe and Khan he could always have jumped ship once Warren had done the ground work

Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
I think that's a little idealistic. What good is legacy to a sportsman when he's in his 60's, skint and suffering with his health? Froch appears to have a good head on his shoulders, but the likes of him and Larry Holmes are few and far between. Look at Ali, fantastic legacy but only relatively recently has he made good money after his career finished. And that's the most famous sportsman in the world. Most boxers spend their cash in no time and end up skint. Froch should be aiming for the most cash as possible from his remaining fights. Warren would help with that even if there is a Peter Manfredo type defence in there too.MachoMan09 wrote:Froch has a quality record that will stand the test of time; especially if he continues to fight the best guys out there. All this bollocks about being well known and earning more money should not be as important as legacy. Legacy should be everything to a sportsman.
Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
Sorry, but (personally) I'm not buying into the 'Froch isn't celebrity material' viewpoint. At least as far as blighty goes.
He's as british as they come, proper northern bugger with zero flair and an unflinching, almost blinkered view of his own ability.
When was personality a prerequisite for sporting fame in our country, outside of having a drinking problem?
It pains me to say it, but someone like Warren would've made him (at the very least) a boxing figurehead in this country, by that I'm not saying he'd be a household name, but he'd at least be familiar to joe public in the same sort of way that Khan and Haye are.
Froch has been successful despite Hennessey's incompetence. If he wasn't the fighter he was, he'd never even have registered, let alone be known outside of our circle.
Edit: The fighter he is, not was.

Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
Froch deserves the utmost respect for the fighters who he has fought and the way he has gone about it. However, Mick deserves some props also for getting these fights and having the faith also in Froch's ability.
Its amazing how Froch can do absolute no wrong on this forum at times. Whereas other fighters can do no right. I remember there was a section of this forum slagging of Hatton for wanting a rematch with Mayweather.
Its Mick's fault that Froch isn't on TV (okay I can see why people are saying that), but then had Froch fought for another promoter got TV and not the big fights. Although some people, again rightly, might not have been too impressed had Froch just been defending against substandard opposition on Sky - but again its the promoters fault.
Whose getting the props for securing Degale vs Groves and Brahmer vs Clev - the promoter. Why isn't Mick getting any credit for securing Froch home advantage against Pascal (on ITV), and these major superfights Froch has had since..... Froch is getting plenty of credit, but Mick gets none.
There was criticism of Hatton for leaving Warren when he did (after he secured the big fight), even more when Khan left Warren - even those these fighters were out of contract. Froch gets applauded, even though it was Mick who mapped out these fights and I think deserves to be involved..... I just feel it would be more appropriate to leave after the super 6.

Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
So Mick had NO imput in securing these fights for Froch? and again, its not like Froch has never been on TV.ALI wrote:Hennessy has nothing to complain about, he had Froch his whole pro career yet he could not deliver on the tv front. Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
Have to wonder how many promoters would have put him in the super six, which most agree has been the making of him. Eddie Hearn says he feels sorry for Froch not getting the money he deserves for all the big fights he's in, in the same breath he says he's "not a big fan" of the super six.stujones wrote:Mick deserves no credit in helping secure these fights?Dan Dares wrote:Froch deserves respect for the way he has had to go about his business. Of course he does, and he was very unfortunate in the TV side of things.stujones wrote:Mick deserves no credit in helping secure these fights?Dan Dares wrote:Froch deserves respect for the way he has had to go about his business. Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
I agree, it should be to the fans. Unforunately there are too many wannabee-promoter fans, who are more concerned about how much a fighter earns rather than the fights he takesMachoMan09 wrote:Froch has a quality record that will stand the test of time; especially if he continues to fight the best guys out there. Froch should be everywhere in the build up to his fights in the same way Haye always is. You can't turn on the TV without seeing his mug. Mick should have had Froch doing the circuit. Probably harder to do without Sky's backing but still.

Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
Mick Hennessy delivered from him, and helped guide him from the start up to now, where he is getting consistently big fights, only for Froch to abandon him and forget all the hard work Mick put in years before.
Quite frankly, Froch got beat by Kessler, and if he wasn't in the Super Six, he may not have had another chance to fight a big name.
He's probably only got 2 fights left in any event. He'll beat Johnson, but I think Andre Ward will beat him widely on points.I can't see that one being very close at all.

Re: Froch on his split with Meaty Mick
Hennessy hasn't delivered for a very long time though.
Putting Froch in the Super Six was the easy option taking into account his troubles getting British TV interested. Other promoters can do the promoting, American TV picks up the tab and then it's over to Carl to do his job in the ring.
Does anyone else remember the shambolic undercard to Froch vs Dirrell? I was there and like most people spent the majority of the night in the bar because there wasn't anything of interest going on upstairs.
Froch is Britain's best current fighter, the best to watch and is in the best fights. Yet hardly anybody knows who the f**k he is. That's not the sign of a promoter doing his job properly if you ask me.
