Froch on his split with Meaty Mick

Froch signed for the Super 6 when Mick had a contract with a terrestial TV network. Froch being champion changed the course of Mick's relationship with ITV somewhat.

ITV were not happy that the Taylor fight was in the states, they couldn't get the revenue of prime time Saturday night, and quite rightly some might argue, as Froch's status had changed - team Froch (including Mick) now valued him at more. ITV were not prepared to pay, although they did agree to a next day showing - as they did with Dirrell vs Froch (a week delay).

However, when the Super 6 got going - the money proved too much for ITV. So, I think it is wrong to say they had no choice of entering because they had no TV deal. They did - Mick continued to show fights on ITV, even when Froch's fights were not being shown live. They could have stuck to the same financial demands as they did before he won the green belt and continued to have his fights on ITV - probably against substandard opposition not shown in the states (this was a big part of the problem with Khan recently - his fight wasn't shown live in the states, so don't expect a PPV name)... or go for the Super 6, get the bigger purses but potentially lose out on ITV.

They chose the latter - and I feel it had a big reason in why Mick lost his entire ITV deal. ITV couldn't have been happy losing their star champion. However, it is wrong to say Mick/Froch had no option to go for the Super 6 because they had no TV deal - so it was an easy option. They clearly DID have a TV deal, but it was a deal that wasn't going to attract the big names. This is what Frank complained about when Sky had boxing on a Friday night.

I can appreciate Froch's position over lack of TV exposure, but I find his comments about having done it all himself to be distasteful and wide off the mark.I do wonder if his sour soundbites have not endeared him to a wider public, as much as anything.I also feel that he should thank his lucky stars that he didn't box Calzaghe, as he would have been beaten comfortably on points and then not gone into the Super Six.

Mick Hennessy delivered from him, and helped guide him from the start up to now, where he is getting consistently big fights, only for Froch to abandon him and forget all the hard work Mick put in years before.

Quite frankly, Froch got beat by Kessler, and if he wasn't in the Super Six, he may not have had another chance to fight a big name.

He's probably only got 2 fights left in any event. He'll beat Johnson, but I think Andre Ward will beat him widely on points.I can't see that one being very close at all.

What you mean forget all the hard work.... Mick didn't do any work if you hear the BBC interview. If this was Hatton or Khan after FW delivering a home world title fight there would have been many a post calling them ungrateful etc, even after a bitter legal battle both boxers still publically thanked their former promoter. If this would have been any other British fighter response to getting a world title fight, following a defeat, against a fighter who lost his last fight - again people would have been calling him an ungrateful git. Froch is completely dismissing Mick. If Mick did nothing and Froch was self promoting for ages anyway - maybe we shouldn't be blaming Mick for the lack of TV, but the "self-promoter" - oh no, cannot be doing that though. There seems to be a bit of a thing to praise the fighter ALONE for setting up the big fights, blame the promoter for the lack of TV. Maybe the promoter was involved in both, and that should mean the praise also.

And we keep discussing UK TV, what about US TV - Froch is more known in US TV than many a british fighter. For example, we keep assuming Haye is well known - on the recent Judah vs Mabuzza bill - they talked about the heavyweight scene, talked to Tyson and talked to Adamek - talked about the post Klitchsko future, not one mention of Haye - just said "there is no one" and said Adamek is the only fighter causing a stir, but he faces a tall order.

Thats probably because it was a main event promotion and Adamek is their main heavy....
