I suspected a card like that would turn up against Simpson. I thought he won, but very close fight throughout. Close win for Smith is fine, but why doess there always have to at least be one retard judging?
The result tonight was close and could have gone either way so cries of robbery will be unjust. However Terry O'Connor's scorecard leaves a sour taste and even more so because the Board will do jack about it. Have to feel sorry for John though, he always seems to be wrong side of the decision. Well done to Smith, showed fantastic heart and courage in there tonight.
Simpson has now beaten Smith twice in my opinion. I think judges and fans just fail to score the excellent work simpson does on the inside and catching opponents on the way in. Simpson was the boss in there tonight, the rounds smith won he nicked, simpson won several rounds big. How anyone can score 11 and 12 for Smith is beyond me. He never threw a punch. He held constantly and was not warned once. Simpsons punches were harder, more damaging and cleaner I really feel he won by at least 2 and I feel heartsick for the guy. He's beaten Lindsay and Smith twice and finds himself with nowhere really to go!
I think what annoyed me the most was commentators inability to credit most of Simpsons punches!
The referee was'nt bad but he should have been stronger against Smith's holding tactics which as far as i know are against the rules!
Only thing I hope is that someone gives Simpson a break and he gets a shot at the European or if really lucky a World!
Smith clearly won the first round obvously and some of the rounds could have went either way but id say simpson clearly won 4 rounds in the middle of the fight.
As i said before tho, credit to both fighters. Smith is a class act and simpson..... Well simpson is simpson, everyone loves watching him!
I think the fact simpson has so many losses on his record makes judges lean against him as if one more wont matter. If that was two unbeaten fighters in there tonight i think it would have been scored a draw.
I look forward to seeing smith more in the future but also hope that simpson at least gets a world title shot at some point, even if he doesnt win it. He deserves a shot, great fighter.

I agree. I felt he let Smith turn it into a wrestling match at times

Commentary was rank rotten mate.....
Think it was smiths uncles or something! Lol
The commentary was appalling. At one point Simpson landed a cracking right hand and Woodhall started talking about a body shot Smith had thrown about a minute earlier.
I was willing Simpson all the way to the end to do it but there was nothing in it at all, it could've gone either way or of been a draw. I think a draw would've been a fair result to be honest because Simpson was the champion.
A lot of the rounds were close but O'Connor's card left me shocked. Just out of interest, if anyone takes a look at the fight, was O'Connor sitting in front of Smith's family? The noise might have swayed him in a few of the close rounds, all I can think of for that card.
I don't think Smith will go very far, he is a spoiler plain and simple. The ref and judges were well out, thought Simmo well won and so did everyone else I know who watched it.

It was his 12th fight. And,however you scored it,he emerged with two wins against a world top 5 fighter! He will grow now as a fighter and can only get better. It was his first fight for Joe G,too.I take it everyone else you know who watched it are Scottish? I bet all the Scousers think Smith won!
not seen the rematch but i felt smith was a tad lucky the first time, getting credit for aggression rather than effective aggression when simpson was landing clean shots on his head.
smith has his bandwagon and will probably be moved up the next level. simpson, as he continues to prove, keeps on coming.
never been a fan of the smith style, i have to say, as i don't like the mauling style boxing.
not the unluckiest boxer he lost both fights and daveyboy everyone i no thinks smith won the handfull of simpson fans there wernt outraged by the decision either
simpson usually doesn't get the decision. if it comes down to a close fight, in the other guy's hometown especially, he's not getting the benefit of the doubt. he has lost some close ones, fairly, i'd argue, namely the one with paul appleby. the most controversial defeat of his is to dazzo williams, whom he clearly outboxed.
smith bandwagon will roll on, and you'd think simpson will keep coming back and producing surprises at british and domestic level, which he's made a career of.

smiths bandwagon will roll on to ibf number 4 hopefully he either wins the british ou right or goes for the european 3rd fight pointless wouldnt mind seeing him fight lindsay maybe jamie arthur could move back up would be a decent 1st deffence

What happened to Johns jab? When he used it you could clearly see the difference especially when he doubled it up! He should have used it a lot more as Smith was pushing forward trying to spoil, it would have kepted him off and gave John a bit of space to get his other shots off!
I think if these two boxed one another 10 times they would all be close fights..as i said on a diff thread i scored it a draw so no arguments either way...Neither of these fighters are world class&how Simpson was ranked ibf number 4 is beyond me...both these boxers would get destroyed at top level..FACT!!

Count exactly how many times from round 3 stephen held on and the ref does nothing about it! 9 poor to say the least)

The amount of times he was allowed to hold was unreal! Did you say anything to the ref during the fight?
I just felt John should have looked to use the jab more as it looked effective when he did.
