History shows that Dempsey had power in both hands.
Moreover, he was alot quicker than the older Willard.
With such advantages, Dempsey didn't need to "carry
a load" in order to give Willard a bad beating.

Surely Dempsey could legitimately beat Willard but it does appear that Willard suffered severe injuries. He did indeed engage in more fights but I can't see how this is particularly relevant. People can recover from very severe injuries.
