A bit of a tool for getting involved in this type of stuff, to be honest.

Fw@nk will, for all intense purposes give him the boot.

Overrated, imo, as a fighter, and by everyone else for his intelligence.

What a plonker.

The allure and chance of easy money and the attendant things that drugs can bring is a powerful pull on stupid and ignorant and amoral people (I put my younger self firmly in that group of shit).

I do agree with you, as I used to be an ok'ish footballer in my youth, with trials at various clubs, Brentford, Wimbledon and a few others but by that time I was firmly into girls and dope.

Mitchell is both older than I was (I was about 16-17) and is a professional fighter, who is competing at top level.

Bit of a difference, imo.

It's not that people who get sucked into it are out and out bad or evil (though I admit I was).

It must be very difficult to be a 'local hero' or 'local hope' there's a lot of expectation and pressure. Young men want to be at the centre of things and want to be seen as desirable and have a need to be noticed; drugs and money do a lot of the work for you.

Kevin lives where he did before he was a famous boxer; no doubt he had hopes of living somewhere nicer. He has worked his arse off and not got where he wanted. He'd have to be a saint not to be tempted. I imagine there's people in nicer parts of Dagenham not ever been punched or worked or got up early to run and the life has tempted him, (as it did me).

Hope it is all crap and the big fight v Murray is on.

Though Kevin maybe older than you were when you had similar choices; some people grow and develop at different ages.

Hope you still get a run out on a weekend and enjoy it :TU:

Hehe, yeah still love playing and play at least once a week.

There are some things you just don't grow out of :TU:

Good luck to Mitchell, anyways. Hopefully he can keep it together and we get the Murray fight.

The guidelines on sentencing for cultivation of cannabis have been tightened up.

Jail is almost inevitable if you are the lead culprit - significant commercial scale would be at least 12 months.
It used to be 10 plants max for percy and it's now around 4 with the guideline changes.
We're talking about mitigation.

Relevant Sentencing Case Law
Herridge [2006]1 Cr App R (S) 252
52 plants at home. Personal use. G plea. 6 months prison. This case also recognises the reduction in penalty for possession of cannabis by its reclassification as a Class C drug.

Booth [1997] 2 Cr App R (S) 67
8-10kg per annum production. 4 years prison

Jubb [2002] 2 Cr App R (S) 8
D was sole lessee of industrial unit which contained a sophisticated system for the cultivation of cannabis. 705 plants. Potential income £190k. G plea but D denied being a principal in the enterprise. 5 years.
Bit of a mockery if that fella was able to blag 52 plants as personal use. Maybe he claimed he was growing with non-feminized seeds and that half would end up chucked.

Different topic, but I read that Brian Hughes has retired.

Surely he'd have picked up more than the average geeza on the street does in a year for his fight with Katsidis
Yeah but after expenses and tax, assuming he has paid it, what he has left wont go far, after all he needs money to live on and if there is any left what is he going to do, look at high yielding shares or a FTSE 250 tracker fund? I doubt it. Sad to say but a lot of boxers spend money like its water and have no idea about finances.

Most of the time when you read about broke fighters its the fighters fault, but papers try to portray the promoters as the bad guys. If the fighters had listended to their promoters/managers in the first place their finances would have been a lot better.

Too often the fighters ignore astute promoters and managers only to listen to local hangers on who havent got a clue.

Yeah, there's recent case law (Court of Appeal) on this that overrides the relatively lax magistrates' sentencing guidelines. Sentencing is much more tougher now (Re: production/cultivation of cannabis), even if only for personal consumption.

I dealt with a client at Magistrates' Court last month, 5 plants for personal use (non-sophisticated) and he recieved a 6 month curfew. Magistrates retired to give serious consideration as to whether he should be committed to the Crown Court for sentencing.

The obvious question Mitchell faces is does he live at the property? If he does, it would appear difficult for him to successully argue that he had no knowledge of the operation (should he deny the offences, if charged).

Wasn't Mitchell's mom in a relationship with Paul Cook (Nicky'd dad) at some point?
