Frankie Gavin wants to fight Amir Khan by end of the year

Post by Horse »

"Getting that WBO Intercontinental Belt round my waist is all I can think of at the minute," said Gavin ''as it will gatecrash me into the Top 10 World Rankings''.

"There is no way I will be leaving the O2 on 21st May without it."

And while Mutley is firmly on Gavin's mind, the confident 24-year-old believes he is already at European level - and with the help of trainer Anthony Farnell, says he will be ready to challenge for world honours by the end of the year.
How does beating Young Mutley, who is below English title level, get Frankie Gavin anywhere near a fight with Amir Khan?

I am sorry but as much as I admire Frankie Gavin's desire to fight Amir Khan, I cannot see it happening in the immediate future as I expect that by end of this year Khan will have unified the Light-Welter division and will be angling for Welterweight world titles, Gavin main aim should be British and Commonwealth honours to get more rounds in the paid ranks and boost his ranking in order for him to fight Khan in a British superfight in the next 3-4 years.

After Mutley I would like to see him fight Daws in an eliminator, then Theophane (or if he relinquishes fight for the vacant) and then maybe Williams as a first defence to cap off a good year! He's such a good prospect!

Frankie is very talented but I will gladly take your money chaps should he fight Amir. Only one winner.

Some pretty OTT statements on here about Gavin that's for sure. Heaping the pressure on. He is years away from the top guys

He is some boxer to be sure but I used to like it when he posted, he was honest and weren't a dick. Muttley will get his arse kicked, he's a bit past his best and I bet there'll be a good atmosphere but he will get boxed down.

By the time Frankie is really steady at World level Amir will be ready to pack up (18-24 months).

If Khan-Gavin happened by the end of the year Khan would win handily. Let's see how Gavin does against a top 25 world ranked opponent before picking him to beat one of the divisions best fighters who is also arguably top 15 pound for pound.

And the predictions of Gavin being the best British fighter ever are far too premature. Tons of prospects look the goods early on.

I have always found the discussions on here about both to be strange. Frankie has always been behind Amir despite being older. Remember, Frankie was behind Amir in the ams yet the majority seem to think it's only a matter of time before Gavin surpasses him.

Based on his pro career I'm not so sure we have seen enough to suggest Gavin will reach the top let alone dominate. Hopefully I'm wrong but I'm not completely sold despite his obvious class.

Amir was a fantastically precocious amateur boxer with a fabulous composure and physical gifts. He is a marvel at employing his speed, wits and anticipation. He has developed his stamina, ring awareness and strategy. Khan is a very gifted athlete who boxes well.

That does not make him a top class boxer, (IMO).

A top class boxer has timing, defence, strategy, generalship, power and chin.

I feel that a boxer can develop, through experience, the necessities to be a top class boxer.

Frankie Gavin is developing these attributes; when he gets to the top it will not be a 'smash and grab' raid; he'll be able to hold his own and keep the Title. It won't be down to 'clever matchmaking'.

Amir is a very decent boxer but is not the best boxer in his division and if it weren't for his blazing speed he would not be champ at all.

(I realise that sounds mean minded; I apologise; what I mean to say is that, to me, boxing is a sport or skill that can be developed' Khans amazing speed has got him to the top but relying on sheer speed may be detrimental to learning the finer touches of boxing).

Khan has more talent and a far better training environment, would only be one winner.

This is just the usual guff from allegedly's mob, throw out a big name and talk about world titles, then carry on fighting WBO level bums and say everyone is avoiding you.

Hi gents,

personally (boring as it may be) I'd like to see Gavin go British (outright), Commonwealth, EU and European titles over the next 2-3 years covering 12-15 fights.

No rush, in my opinion.

Best wishes,

Both codes. If he wants it and stays injury free, he can be our best ever.
khan showed v kindelan how much better he is to gavin & i think he will allways be that much better.i do love gavins backfoot boxing but he is more a fighter now who gets marked & seems to put everything into his shots & has to grind out stoppages.degale is better suited to the pro's.

He should be fighting Theophane, not Mutley.

Have boxers always made comments like this, and been so impatient? I know he had a glittering amateur career so can be rushed along quicker, like DeGale, but he needs to work his way up through the British/Euro divisions first in my opinion. Loads of decent fights out there for him still on the domestic scene.

As I have said in a previous post, I am a big fan of Frankie and I am sure he will go to the top of the sport. Warren is making the right fights for Gavin, he's only had 9 fights and has bearly lost a round as a pro. He's boxing better opponents every time and I personally think Young Mutley is a good step up for him. He should beat Mutley then maybe go for the Commenwealth Title against Ajose Olusegun. Olusegun has a good record of around 29-0 and got himself a World Title elimanator. If you look at his record he's beaten Nigel Wright and Colin Lynes and I think Bradley Pryce. If Gavin was to box him and beat him it would push him up the World ratings. I honestly think Khan would have too much for Frankie at the moment but in a year or so and hopefully a few impressive wins then we can talk about this fight happening.

Olusegun is a dangerous man. I`d avoid him like the plague.

He is avoided like the plague. I cannot figure out how he manages to keep motivated when he only gets a run out once or twice a year. A good fighter but he hasn't looked top world class when I've seen him box on telly.

Do you think Kindelan came to win?

And I'm not that sure that Frankie went all out v Kindelan either; if he'd won it would have ballsed the Khan v Kindelan rematch.

Kindelan came for the payday in the rematch.

Gavin went easy on him? Come off it!

So Kindelan would go easy for dough but Frankie wouldn't go easy to make the big fight possible? There was a lot of dough around that promotion; putting a spoke in wouldn't have been a clever thing to do.

Come off it guys. Gavin hasn't got enough of anything to make it even near world level.
