Morrison-Foreman??????

Post by mozzainoz »

I have recently watched the Morrison-Foreman WBO encounter from 93,now I was a big Morrison fan, still am,but I have to say this...I really think Foreman carried Tommy through this fight, especially towards the later rounds when it was clear you could have blown Morrison over. Also at the end of the 3rd round i think it was,George whispers something into Angelo Dundees ears,we dont hear what it is of course but Dundee replys with "nooo everything will be alright" I might be way off but during the previous round George hardly threw a punch and I am wondering if he thought he might be overdoing the 'carrying' and may get his purse stopped or withheld,of course the crowd would never get on Big Georges back for being too cautious,I dunno there was someting very fishy about this fight and George has also stated several times that he felt Tommy deserved the title and he didnt try to stop him. What do you guys think, does anyone agree or am I being rediculous.

Yeah- you know the night of the fight I was excited wanting Morrison to win and worried that he would pass out in the late rounds. There were a couple low blows by Foreman that I felt were deliberate- like in the Stewart fight- but he never cut off the ring or even followed Morrison. Instead he stood ring center slowly turning as Mortrison went 'round and 'round. Maybe the chubby old guy was tired too.

But if George Foreman and Angelo Dundee were in on a fixed fight, why?

Before I'd say "fixed" and make an accusation, I would attribute it to George's sometimes curious state of mind. Like when he said, years later, that he could have got up in Zaire but didn't; or the way he walked after Moorer eating punches and really not doing much - he didn't want to bust up a young fighter, remember?- until that right hand landed. He seemed more resolvedthan resolute to me. Then against Stewart he nearly kills him early, makes him a soprano later when Alex is beating him, and after the fight says he carried Alex; didn't want to hurt him either. I'll say that the night of Foreman/Morrison I saw George unable to handle TM's movement; partisanship and whiskey do that to you! When I watched the tape, and this was years later, I not only thought George won the fight but that he did so despite himself. The "why" of it escapes me but it sure looked that way.
