Does this mean we will be getting Carl's future fights on Sky?

Re: Carl Froch joins Matchroom - official announcement
It would be interesting to know the nature of this deal. One of Matchroom's strengths always has been the ability and willingness to be more flexible than other promoters. For instance, when Naz split with FW to become 'self promoted', it was Matchroom that was willing to stage, which is a more accurate description than promote, Hamed's UK fights, for a far smaller fee than a promoter might normally accept. I wonder if the Froch deal is similar. In a way, when a fighter reaches a certain stage, they need someone to put on their shows rather than a traditional promoter which would expect the percentage it has always received - and the more money a fighter earns the larger that percentage amount becomes, this is why successful fighters go the 'self promoted' route. But Matchroom accepted a flat fee, unheard of, to work with Hamed, maybe the deal with Froch is of a similar nature.
Re: Carl Froch joins Matchroom - official announcement
You'd think the deal wouldn't be your standard one seeing as the Johnson fight was already set up and a lot of the work has already been done regarding the final. Unlike Hamed though, Froch is very much unknown to the mainstream and so will need help with Matchroom in that regard. The clinching factor must surely be their relationship with Sky though.
Re: Carl Froch joins Matchroom - official announcement
You would certainly think so, wouldn't you? And I sincerely hope he does get Sky coverage.freddydoesdallas wrote:Can we assume he'll be featuring prominently on sky now?
Carl deserves every penny he makes for taking these hard fights that he has over the past few years.
Re: Carl Froch joins Matchroom - official announcement
You wouldn't blame him if he does. In fairness, I'm sure Hearns would get him a title shot at something. :)deadpan wrote:Will Fury be next to jump ship?
Re: Carl Froch joins Matchroom - official announcement
I'm delighted that Froch is getting more coverage. I was a bit surprised that he's agreed a 5-fight deal. I assume that these will be his last 5.
Johnson... Then Ward...
Maybe a rematch with Kessler. A fight against Bute? Maybe a fight at Light Heavy? (Chad Dawson?)

What is with the 'handsome Eddie' comments? Some kind of pee-take I suppose? ha-ha
Re: Carl Froch joins Matchroom - official announcement
They should do a contender like program soon. That would be quite good. If they are to promote a show at the city ground who would be a viable opponent and who would be on the undercard. Need someone willing to travel and for the undercard need a mix of local talent and good names.

Whilst I agree the Ward fight could be less than stellar, I think the Johnson fight should be a good tear up and the exact kind of fight that the casuals lap up.Final round wrote:Good news for boxing that Matchroom are committing to the sport but concerning Froch A fight with Johnson in Atlantic City and then a fight round Wards house are two which Carl could look less than stellar in and wont help to build up his public profile in Britain to a PPV star at this stage of his career. A rematch against Kessler could be big over here due to the Calzaghe link.

To be fair none of them gave a shit when he was in good fights with Clinton Woods on terrestrial TV (if memory serves).jtourettes wrote:Whilst I agree the Ward fight could be less than stellar, I think the Johnson fight should be a good tear up and the exact kind of fight that the casuals lap up.Final round wrote:Good news for boxing that Matchroom are committing to the sport but concerning Froch A fight with Johnson in Atlantic City and then a fight round Wards house are two which Carl could look less than stellar in and wont help to build up his public profile in Britain to a PPV star at this stage of his career. Heads up, Frochy on talkSport some time between now and 4pm, apparently talking about raising his profile. Might be interesting (might not!)

NOT interesting. Hawkesby and Jacobs are supercilious posh boys who know jack shit about boxing; Frochy's hands are tied by legals so he could only imply rather than state that he believes Mick is to blame; but he's clearly fallen under handsome Eddie's sexy spell. And that was yer lot.

Bit harsh on Hawksby there, he's the funniest bloke on radio by several hectares. Jacobs can be a bit of a moaner but Hawksby always strikes me as laid back. And he knows a reasonable amount about boxing. Certainly by Talksport standards, where I heard some other dimwits calling the Klitschkos a 'disgrace' for not fighting each other.

TBH Deadpan I don't even know which is which and I don't care either, can't stand them - smuggies who don't like boxing IMO, they'd much rather talk twattish with unfunny fringe comedians than boxing. The only TS presenter who can hold a conversation about boxing is Danny Kelly, who does know his stuff. I knock back the other shows when they ask me on - except Saggers and Quinn, they're not bad. Still waiting to be asked on the mighty George Galloway show though, you know you've made it when you get to chat with Top Cat! I live in hope ...

I purchase both sublime publications.

Re: Carl Froch joins Matchroom - official announcement
It was terrible. It was a ten minute advert for Matchroom with Hawksby asking the most banal of questions while Jacobs just sat there saying nothing.Glyn Leach wrote:NOT interesting. Froch was ridiculous, he was a mouthpiece for Matchroom. All the questions were staged around talking about Matchroom, with the exception of the Pac/Mosley fight where they both gave the most banal of predictions without actually predicting anything.
Did I mention Matchroom?

He is up in the air on his way to Vegas now. I think they're doing a press gathering over there with Froch & Johnson.
