Boxrec hasnt exactly helped either ....the listing should in future have TBA until the opps actually weigh in

I'm usually on board with most things you say but on this Prizefighter i have to disagree. The tournament is about entertainment not name's, sure a few well known boxers always helps makes it interesting but the line up even without Oquendo, Gomez and Johnson should still provide an entertaining nights of boxing and some good knockouts too and in the end thats all that the audience is looking for.

on a sidenote after studying the boxers, i'm surprised i'm saying this but i fancy Lucien Bot to win, although he lacks power he is very quick handed and has good stamina so i expect him to do much better then expected.

the reason we are disapointed in the line up is because its been billed as a super tournament wiv better boxers than normal. when im sure wev got few lads here better than sum of them in it that could be trying to get a few bob instaed of away boxers. i was in biggers better tournament wiv the monicle and id of beat him so aint gr8 standard

Saw some videos of him on youtube and even though he was beating up tomato cans, he did look quite impressive. Looked to have very good reflexes and was putting the shots together well without leaving himself open.

I'm glad Johnson, Oquendo and Gomez are out. Any of them could have conceivably boxed their way to a dull victory. Give me Railroad Tye Fields vs Michael Sprott any day of the week, if that one goes the distance I'll eat my trousers.

Perez is the winner for me, I saw some of his fights on youtube last night and they convinced me he's very very good. If he's up for it I can see him winning all three fights inside the distance.

Johnson, whether he was ever going to participate or not, had got more to lose than win - he has a good record, and with a few easy wins, would be back in the world rankings and maybe get another world title crack before he's done. If he came to Prizefighter and walked onto a stray hayemaker by somebody like Fields, it would be goodnight vienna for his career.

I really hope the show does well in every category its judged by, as I'd love to see more :D

Franklin Egobi

Shane McPhilbin

To even compare the current to line up to that bag of rag-tag scrap is doing it a serious disservice, in my friendly opinion of course.

you're paying extra for it though...the current line up is ok for the york hall. nothing more. add to the mix a cavernous auditorium in muswell hill with next to no atmosphere....i cant think of a worse night out atm

So where saying shane is scrap? He was the youngest lightest and smallest . He had four days notice and took a risk . He came away with a 2nd tko no matter how poor declan timlin was he still was 7-0 and he fought is hero Michael sprott. Would love to other young heavyweights taking this risk .

No kidding. The pullouts of Oquendo, Johnson, and Gomez have lowered the quality of the tournament, but it is still superior compared to past editions.

He's obviously a major gamble but the risk/reward makes him a worthwhile bet even though he could get KTFO in the 1st rd by Aldrich.

More than half would be absolute definites, while the rest would be likely.

Sprott - YES
Fields - YES
Perez - YES
Manswell - YES
Tony - YES
Bot - likely, if only for his record (they accepted Nascimento)
Airich - yes, as a chief support
Orlov - yes, on an undercard

Why?

They have exhausted the domestic line ups and the only way forward with this format is 'international' with one or two domestic fighters in there. I think this will be an excellent 'prizefighter' probably the most entertaining one of the lot - whoever thinks the disappearance of Kingpin is going to make the show less interesting needs their head read!
Have to agree. The event has lost its big-name "pedigree" but should actually be a more exciting spectacle as a result. Also the opening bracket has gone from 3 of the 4 fights being formalities to being very open. I thought it was a bit of a coup that Johnson et al had been secured but let's be honest, the three names that dropped out were not known for their blood n' thunder approach.

If Boxrec took that approach, the entire calendar would list only venues and TV dates until the day before. Wouldn't that be great, a world full of TBA v TBA from May 8 onwards.

Let's also point put that Prizefighter tournaments always go ahead. They don't always feature the original 8, but if you buy a PF ticket, you can safely book your travel and accommodation. Most promotions, if they have three major pull-outs, they pull the whole show.

I keep changing my mind on winner, i know people say Perez but he hasn't fought anyone of note to make him a worthy favourite in my opinion although i do think he has a good chance of winning. I think Sprott should be favourite simply because he has beat the highest level of opponents. Bot is interesting after watching his fight on you tube he looks to have something decent about him and i think he could spring a surprise or two. Im going either Sprott or Perez to win though, wouldn't be surprised if Bot did though

i refer back to a comment ive made before....IF the Prizefighter brand could be relied on to deliver CONSISTANT value then ok ...but the tickets are resembling lottery tickets atm

i personally would prefer small hall sluggers.

but its the general attitude of the promoters i'm most annoyed with...unprofessional...and ultimately detrimental to the sport and what was a good concept that has been commodified and ultimately stretched too far and too slap dash merely for extra financial game

thats boxing all over

im still angry

I hear what you're saying but £60 for a ringside ticket is pretty damn good nowadays isn't it? I guess not checking on the Visa status for guys like Gomez and Johnson does seem a little disorganised but you get that a lot in boxing nowadays.

Probably a controversial thing to say, but do you think Gomez or Johnson were ever coming? It seemed a bit suspect that a big name such as Johnson who thinks very highly of himself would ever do this. Has anyone read any sort of interview with him about it? Seems to happen a lot in Prizefighter; more so than other events I reckon. Could they just pay them for permission to use their name for marketing reasons?

Controversial I know and probably well off just smells funny to me.

the facts are...they didnt turn up ! and i said they wouldnt.
Prizefighter has started to work like this... a load of names are announced to SELL TICKETS....and its dodgy and unfair to genuine fans.

we cant win

take the third HW prizefighter.... the moment they realised Danny and Audley were going to sell tickets they switched the venue from York Hall to the crappy Excel centre (universally acknowledged as the most unpopular venue) and my night was ruined by travel and a bunch of arsehole security who wouldnt let you leave your seats. Instead of rewarding loyal fans who bought tickets early they just treat them like crap !

anyone like to explain why they think this is acceptable.
