the fella who passed away diddn't have any kids or a wife and i think you are going off what was wrote in the papers i know someone who was at the old bailey for the hole trial and on the cctv you see the man go to throw a punch at garry first but that was not in the news and when they said (the punch lifted the man off the floor) well garry was not the biggest of punchers so do you think he could lift a 6ft3 16st man off the floor i dont but at the end of the day whats done is done and i dont give a foooook about other peoples actions

I have alot of old vhs tapes of Robert Mandrill Pews USA Friday night Fights from the 80's.He used to train with Dan The Beast .He was in prison in S.C. ...He and most of his corner were cell mates when released they all got into the boxing scene in Tampa Fl with a corner full of exmurders. He went to 14-0 mostly knock outs & all mostly ending in the first 2 rounds.He broke the rib of his oponent in his first fight.(Reply to nuts remarks on the Pew Vs Stachouse Fight)In Pews fight with Stackhouse Pew knocked Stackhouse down 3 times in the first 2 rounds & ended up winning the fight in the 4th.. He was a hot prospect & could of been something Not to sure What ever happened to him though??Think he went blind or got on drugs????

fastinating really that most of the boxers in prison are there for murder or manslaughter. I wonder why these are there after boxing surely made them money??

Michael Dokes was sentenced to 29 years (I think it was) for possession of drugs and beating up his wife.
I remember reading a story on it in which the police officer, who was a boxing fan, said Dokes had beat his wife far worse than he ever beat an opponent in the ring.

dokes has been out for a while he wasnt sentenced to 29 years i think it was more like 15 and he served 10 or 11.....anyway hes fighting cancer and has been in a terrible way God help him.

Robert Pew, a super middleweight who was featured in The Ring's New Faces section in the 1980's, either is or certainly was in prison for murder.
At one time he was rated as a fairly hot prospect and was something like 12-0 (9) before Murray Sutherland ( I think) derailed him with a TKO.

Oh yeah, I remember "Few Survive" Pew from the good ol' days of the USA Friday Night Fights. Which featured him often until he ran into the rugged journeyman Ricky Stackhouse who took away his unbeaten record. Then Sutherland further exposed him as a rather severely limited banger.

Jimmy Ralston was in prison for a while, I heard.

Is he doing ok these days? Still training young boxers over at the PAL?

I never saw it when you posted it a couple of years ago. But, the thread resurfaced & I finally saw it. Although, as you can see, I'm replying to it under my new moniker.

As for your whether the three fights in question were fought by "Pop" Porter, I can't say for certain. But, judging by the timeline, where this "Portier" billed himself as being from & the weights listed, I'm going to go out on a limb & say that yeah, " Calvin Portier" & Calvin Porter were one & the same.
Thanks for pointing this out to me.
Come to think of it, before he was killed, "Pop" always did claim to have had about 20 pro fights rather than just the 13 that his record shows. So, there are probably even a few more that we haven't discover yet & likely never will...

No on the Jimmy Ralston fight videos. I've done some pretty thorough searches online & have turned up nothing.
I'm sure there's films of a couple of his bouts floating around in this area, but I've never seen any of 'em.

Robert was the closest thing I had to a dad. My mom dated him for 4-5 years. He came out of prison boxing. Was doing great. He didnt loose a fight until he found cocaine. That sent him literally spiraling to the bottom. My mom wasnt doing great for herself when they dated either. He did alot of crap to his body but always stayed in shape without working out. All sorts of stories of him fighting. Wish I could fight videos of his fights.

Jose Stable who fought Emile Griffith is doing life in Florida. Dexter Smith is doing a long stretch and Juan Arroyo -a victim of drug addiction- is doing his fifth or sixth stretch in Florida for robbery.
