Re: has vic surpassed kostya?
You would have to rate Vic higher, look who his beat, and also the ability to go up in weight, if Vic was promoted by Bill Mordey he would be just as popular as KT in Australia. I don't know which fighter can speak English better but
Re: has vic surpassed kostya?
In my opinion its a very hard question, Vic beat Mijares and Arce which were 2 great wins. Tszyu beat Judah who at the time was the next big thing in World Boxing, And who knows might have gone on to big things if he didnt get KO'd.
Tszyu also beat a lot of really tough guys in his reign. He beat some good fighters on his way to the Title. Vic has also beaten some really tough guys.
Id say its a 50/50.

Re: has vic surpassed kostya?
Tszyu is in the hall of fame, on Last years ballott, he went in with Tyson and Chavez snr........not a bad effort, and at this point a dead set lock for the winner in this debate. Call me crazy, but winning 3 weight divisions south of featherweight isn't a major feat....it's like 5 pounds difference, which is less than the required weight that Kostya would have needed to move to Welter, if he makes it to feather I'll swing my vote.hearns wrote:Have to agree with Buster. it is really just much easier to say that they have both excelled fantastically and have few peers as far as accomplishments.
the fact that they have each wanted to please the fans and fight whoever is considered the better fighters at the time and not just cherry-pick, even if the best possible match-ups didn't happen.
anyone agree?

Edit, Kostya had the people behind him as well, you couldn't move in a pub.

Re: has vic surpassed kostya?
i've taken the splinters out of my ass and i say vic has achieved more. if only kostya had fought a few of the other big names. we missed out on potentially some of the best bouts EVER when tszyu was fighting. such a shame for fans.
de la hoya and mayweather fights ( or shit even pacman ) i would have paid whatever price main event wanted, lol. would have sold the car to watch it if need be :)
u wouldn't care who won, u just know they would have been RIPSNORTERS.

Thats a bit harsh. As far as public support, i think its a bit of a shane vic hasnt been promoted/supported better here is oz. Its a bit like geale and katsidis. Re: has vic surpassed kostya?
vic is promoted as fighting out of armenia, by way of australia.
that's his problem.

Re: has vic surpassed kostya?
By the time Floyd jnr moved up to super lightweight Tszyu was battling injuries. His last fight was in 2005.
After winning the IBF title from Rodriguez, Tszyu's first title defence was against Roger Mayweather, who was still a force as a boxer.

Re: has vic surpassed kostya?
Kostya's fight v Roger Mayweather was the most boring fight I ahve ever seen Kostya in. Mayweather was pathetic in that fight

Re: has vic surpassed kostya?
Kostya did not fight professionally until he migrated to Australia. For most of his professional career he was an Australian citizen.

Re: has vic surpassed kostya?
I'd be putting Tszyu's career achievemens before Vic's for a while yet. Going up in weight should never be a factor in weighing it up
Re: has vic surpassed kostya?
Kostya fought in a stronger, richer division with a deeper talent pool and has wins over the likes of Livingstone Bramble, Angel Hernandez, Roger Mayweather, Calvin Grove, Miguel Angel Gonzalez Jesse James Leija and JCC, not to mention underrated fighters such as the tough Oktay Urkel. Play your next Darchinyan Top Trumps card....................
Re: has vic surpassed kostya?
They are both great fighters. Tszyu was undisputed super lightweight champion, Darchinian was undisputed super flyweight champion.
Very rare these days.

Re: has vic surpassed kostya?
Whats harsh about the truth, if someone wins a belt by putting on 1.2 kilo's is it really a big thing, I'm amazed how people carry on about 2 time 3 time divisional champions who have moved all of 2 kilo's up in weight and are somehow compared to a man who has won in as many divisions but has had to endure putting 20 kilo's to earn the same respect.thunderfromdownunder wrote:Thats a bit harsh. IMO the more titles you win at the heavier weights the more accolades you deserve, it's not science and many varying factors to this theory, but if the divisions are strong it's sound.
When men weight 52 kilo's is it really that special, i find it hard to get excited about fighters that weigh less than my wife, and my wife according to most is stunning in a bikini, who stands around 5'8 and weighs 58 kilos.
Question to you Thunder, how many real men can actually weigh that much? we're talking what.... about 1% of the men of the world......
Vic and Donaire make the division look great, but it will always be the most boring and less fan friendly divisions in the history of the sport, they look malnourished and sickly.
Just my opinion, and most of the others i know.

just me maybe. But I'd rather watch the lower weight classes any day of the week:)
Re: has vic surpassed kostya?
Mijares successfully defended his IBF Super Flyweight title against Rueda last night.
Vic is still the only boxer to KO Mijares.

Re: has vic surpassed kostya?
I find that last bit strange dawg, most people i know would rather watch the small guys (fly to welter) than the bigger guys. The fights are way more exiting. Well different strokes i guess.Hounddawg wrote:Whats harsh about the truth, if someone wins a belt by putting on 1.2 kilo's is it really a big thing, I'm amazed how people carry on about 2 time 3 time divisional champions who have moved all of 2 kilo's up in weight and are somehow compared to a man who has won in as many divisions but has had to endure putting 20 kilo's to earn the same respect.thunderfromdownunder wrote:Thats a bit harsh.
